Milieubeschermers hielden de plek jarenlang bezet om te voorkomen dat het energieconcern RWE het landschap zou ruïneren vanwege open mijnbouw. Speciale eenheden haalden donderdag de eerste activisten uit de boomhutten en braken bouwsels af die al die tijd werden gedoogd.

Het Belgisch Planbureau schat in dat
delen van België volgende maand uren
geen stroom hebben door werkzaamheden
aan kernreactoren.Vanwege het onderhoud
zou slechts een van de zeven reactoren
stroom kunnen leveren.Als de Belgen dan
niet minder elektriciteit verbruiken,
wordt de situatie penibel.

Het is niet onwaarschijnlijk dat er in november in sommige gemeenten op bepaalde uren geen stroom zal zijn. Dat zegt het Planbureau aan de VRT. Bart Tommelein heeft intussen gereageerd.

MÜNCHEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse industrieconcern Siemens is dicht bij een miljardendeal rond energiecentrales in Irak. De waarde van het contract zou circa 13 miljard euro bedragen, wat de grootste opdracht voor Siemens ooit zou zijn.

De topman van Siemens, Joe Kaeser, had zondag een ontmoeting met de Iraakse premier Haider al-Abadi in Bagdad om te praten over de deal voor het bouwen en moderniseren van energiecentrales.

België krijgt de rekening gepresenteerd voor het onsamenhangend energiebeleid. Er dreigt een stroomtekort. Maar geen paniek, de overheid heeft een plan. Een afschakelplan.

Door onverwachte – of zijn ze niet zo onverwacht? – problemen met de kerncentrales, dreigt deze winter een stroomtekort in ons land. Maar geen nood, de plannen om dit op te vangen liggen klaar. Het afschakelplan dat in de winter van 2014-2015 werd gemaakt, toen eveneens een black-out dreigde, moeten gewoon uit de lade worden gehaald. Het moet misschien wat worden geactualiseerd. Maar dat kan vlug gebeuren.

Is de vraag naar elektriciteit de komende maanden op een bepaald ogenblik groter dan wat kan worden geproduceerd of ingevoerd? Dan koppelen we gewoon een aantal gemeenten en bedrijven van het net af. Zo simpel is het.

Elia waarschuwt voor Belgisch stroomtekort

(ABM FN) Elia heeft gewaarschuwd voor een stroomtekort in België deze winter.

"Op enkele weken voor het begin van de winter wordt ons land geconfronteerd met de plotse onbeschikbaarheid van meerdere nucleaire centrales. Het evenwicht tussen productie en verbruik wordt hierdoor op de proef gesteld", aldus de Belgische netbeheerder.

Elia wees op de onverwachte en langdurige onbeschikbaarheid van de kerncentrales Doel1, Doel2, Tihange2 en Tihange3. Daarmee verdwijnt tot midden december 3.000 megawatt aan nucleaire capaciteit. Dit komt overeen met 25 procent van de totaal geïnstalleerde beheersbare productiecapaciteit van België.

"Zonder bijkomende capaciteit van 1.600 tot 1.700 MW kan netbeheerder Elia niet garanderen dat de bevoorradingszekerheid op elk moment verzekerd is zonder afschakelplan. De maand november is het meest kritiek", aldus de waarschuwing van de netbeheerder.

Het aandeel Elia sloot woensdag op de beurs in Brussel een half procent hoger op 55,40 euro.

Burgers en bedrijven betalen direct mee via energienota
’Windmolenparken draaien wél op subsidie’

Den Haag - De claim van VVD-minister Wiebes (Klimaat) over de komst van het eerste windmolenpark op zee zonder subsidie blijkt onterecht. Volgens de Algemene Rekenkamer pompt de overheid wel degelijk belastinggeld in het windpark.

Wiebes jubelde in maart nog over een ’wereldprimeur’. De Rekenkamer stelt dat de prijs van energieopwekking op de Noordzee wel spectaculair daalt, maar weerlegt de claim dat er geen subsidie meer bij komt kijken.

„Via de kosten voor aansluiting van de windmolenparken op zee op het landelijke elektriciteitsnet betaalt het Rijk mee”, stellen de onderzoekers in het rapport ’Focus op kosten windenergie op zee’. „Zonder subsidie leveren de windmolens op zee geen stroom aan het landelijke netwerk.”

Het plaatsen van de turbines gaat in 2022 wel voor het eerst gebeuren zonder subsidie.

Energierekening

Het aansluiten van nieuwe windmolenparken kost tot en met 2023 al 4 miljard euro. Het geld is afkomstig van de zogeheten Opslag Duurzame Energie, een taks op de energierekening van huishoudens en bedrijven.

Als het niet lukt voor dit bedrag mag staatsbedrijf TenneT de extra kosten in rekening brengen door de transporttarieven op de energienota te verhogen.

Voorlopig komt er nog geen einde aan de subsidies voor windmolenparken. In de periode 2023-2030 verwacht de Rekenkamer dat er tussen de vijf en zes miljard euro nodig is voor de aanleg van nog meer windparken op zee. Minister Wiebes moet nog besluit nemen over de financiering.

Risico’s

De Rekenkamer waarschuwt ook voor financiële risico’s bij de aanleg van windmolenparken op zee. Zo kunnen windmolens die zonder subsidie worden geplaatst onrendabel worden als de elektriciteitsprijs te ver daalt. Daardoor kan het voor bedrijven lonen om op het laatste moment af te zien van de bouw van de molens in zee.

„De kosten voor een verliesgevend windpark kunnen vele malen hoger zijn dan de boete die de exploitanten aan de overheid moeten betalen als ze het windpark niet bouwen”, stellen de onderzoekers. Overigens lopen de boetes op tot 35 miljoen euro.

Arkona feeds first power into the grid

EON and Equinor's Arkona offshore wind project in the German Baltic Sea continues to strive for completion in record time. Now the energy company E.ON is reporting further progress: the wind farm has fed the first green electricity into the German Electrical grid. Arkona is thus right on schedule. EON, the company responsible for construction and operation, cites the detailed planning and professionally implemented construction process as the reasons for the success. Collaterally with close cooperation 50 Hertz the transmission system operator was able to make it achievable for a partial feed-in option into the German high voltage electrical grid with their precise coordination, before the completion of all grid connections. Now that the first of the 60 turbines is online, further wind turbines are being commissioned step by step.

Mr Sven Utermöhlen, COO of E.ON Climate & Renewables said that “It only took one year from the first monopile installation to the first electricity feed-in. Rarely before has a project been built so straightforward. This is a great achievement on the part of our team and all our project partners and at the same time an important step towards further optimization of offshore wind projects.”

Pål Coldevin, head of New Energy Development at Equinor and Chairman of Arkona's Steering Committee said that “The first electricity from the Arkona wind project is a milestone in the renewable energy market. We are proud to contribute to this with E.ON and the 50Hertz transmission system operator. Arkona is Equinor's fourth wind farm in Europe and an important contribution to Equinor's strategy of evolving from a focused oil and gas company to a broad energy group.”

Together with the first electricity feed-in, the Arkona electrical offshore substation was also energized. E.ON/Equinor and 50Hertz jointly operator the platform. The optimal timing and technical coordination of the companies is helping to optimize offshore grid connection costs and to promptly advance the energy turnaround.

Mr Frank Golletz, CTO of 50Hertz said that “The concept of fast and cost-effective offshore grid connections in the Baltic Sea has also proven its worth in this project. Together with the Arkona wind farm, we have succeeded in planning and constructing an efficient, cost-effective, flexible and safe transformer platform. This is another important step for the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea.”

With the punctual commissioning of the wind turbines, the importance of the service building in the port of Mukran in Sassnitz on the island of Rügen will also increase. The operation of the wind farm is controlled from there. All 50 newly created jobs have been now be filled.

European Commission approves German state aid for cogeneration power plants

Energy Live News reported that European Commission has approved the German Government’s plans to provide state aid for two combined heat and power (CHP) plants in the country. The support measures are for the modernisation of a highly efficient cogeneration facility in Munich and the construction of a new highly efficient plant in Herne. Under the scheme, operators of cogeneration plants will receive a premium on top of the market price.

Germany had to notify the support measures for the plants individually as they both exceed the 300MW threshold set out under EU rules.

The Commission said cogeneration increases energy efficiency by recycling the heat from power generation for other uses, to the overall benefit of the environment.

It, therefore, found Germany’s support to the two plants will contribute to the EU’s energy and environmental objectives without distorting competition.

MHI Vestas launches first 10 MW Wind Turbine in History

The offshore wind pioneer pushes the boundaries once again as it announced the wind industry’s first commercially available double-digit wind turbine – the V164-10.0 MW. The offshore wind industry’s long-anticipated, double-digit barrier has been broken. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, in a stunning announcement at the Global Wind Summit in Hamburg today, has made it official its V164 turbine platform has now achieved a power rating of 10 MW. And the turbine is available for sale now. Mr Philippe Kavafyan CEO of MHI Vestas said that “What was unreachable before has become the new benchmark. In launching the V164-10.0 MW today, MHI Vestas is proud to contribute this major milestone to the offshore wind industry. And it gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to all the wind industry pioneers who have led us to this historic, double-digit nominal capacity.”

Perhaps most remarkable is that the barrier-breaking model is built on proven technology and lessons learned from previous installations of the V164 platform, promising a level of certainty and reliability for customers of the V164-10.0 MW from day one.

With more than 100 V164 turbines already installed in the UK and Germany, MHI Vestas has been able to leverage technological learnings and incremental innovations to push the boundaries of its flexible platform from 8 MW now up to 10 MW.

The V164-10.0 MW is available for sale now and can be delivered for commercial installation beginning in 2021.

Siemens Gamesa win new contracts in Spain

Siemens Gamesa continues to cement its position as Spain's leading turbine original equipment maker. The company has recently sealed deals with WPD, Brial and a major energy company for the supply of 233 MW. All of these projects fall under the scope of the renewable capacity allocated in recent auctions. In total, the company will install 70 of its wind turbines at eight wind farms being developed in the Spanish provinces of Zaragoza and Valladolid during the first half of next year. It will also operate and maintain all of these new facilities.

Most of the orders are for the SG 3.4-132, one of the company's most cutting-edge and efficient turbines. The company will also install the SG 2.1-114 and the SG 2.6-126 at some of these facilities.

The majority of the blades for these turbines will be made at the Aoiz factory in Navarre, the As Samozas factory in Galicia and the Moroccan facility in Tangier. The nacelles, meanwhile, will be manufactured at the Ágreda factory in Soria, a facility which has seen its production increase by 20% in the last year.

More specifically, the company has been mandated to supply 39 of its SG 3.4-132 turbines (135 MW) to independent power provider WPD at the El Poleo, Las Panaderas and Navillas wind farms, all of which are located in Valladolid. It will also service these facilities for five years.

In addition, Siemens Gamesa has been contracted to supply Brial with another 20 turbines for the Tinajeros, Agón, La Nava and Los Cierzos wind farm developments in Zaragoza. The turbines to be installed at these complexes, a mix of the company's SG 3.4-132, SG 2.1-114 and SG 2.6-126 models, represent capacity totalling 62 MW. In this instance, the company will maintain and operate the wind farms for a period of 10 years.

Northland Power Opens Offshore Wind Operations Hub in Germany

Northland Power Inc announced the opening of its offshore wind operations hub in Germany. The hub represents an expansion of Northland’s focus on offshore wind operations. Initial activities are focused on achieving synergies across the 332 MW Nordsee One wind farm, which commenced commercial operations in 2017, and the 269 MW Deutsche Bucht project, which is currently in construction. The team will also support Northland’s global project development work. Operations and maintenance activities, including remote monitoring and control of the wind turbines and substations, have been centralized in a port-side facility in the village of Norddeich. Commercial and engineering activities are being managed from a new office in the Hamburg area.

Mr Troy Patton, Chief Operations Officer at Northland said that “I’m pleased to welcome the Northland team to their new headquarters. With two operating offshore wind farms in the North Sea, and a third in construction, the operational focus of our business in Europe is evolving. We have the people, expertise, and proximity to expand our capabilities and realize significant synergies, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to strong results and continued growth.”

Eolus inks agreement with Siemens Gamesa for wind turbines project

Eolus has signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa for the delivery of seven wind turbines comprising 30 MW for construction in wind farm Stigafjellet in Norway. The seven wind turbines of the model SWT-DD-130 has a capacity of 4.3 MW each and will be constructed in wind farm Stigafjellet, located in Bjerkreim south of Stavanger. The wind farm is covered by a sales agreement with ewz that was made public by press release in July 10, 2018. Commissioning is planned for the second half of 2020.

A five-year full-service agreement has also been signed with Siemens Gamesa.

Norway Statkraft to invest USD 1.2 billion a year in renewables until 2025

Reuters reported that Norwegian power firm Statkraft plans to invest USD 1.2 billion a year in renewable energy from 2019 to 2025. In addition to upgrades of Nordic hydropower facilities, the state-owned company plans to reach a capacity of 6,000 megawatts (MW) in onshore wind and 2,000 MW in solar power by 2025. It said that "Statkraft also has an ambition to triple its volumes managed on behalf of customers."

Annual investments in the renewal of Norwegian hydropower plants will amount to 1.2 billion crowns.

The company said in a statement that "The majority of growth will come in Europe, while substantial growth will be added to markets where Statkraft is already present in South America and India."

UK generators burn record low coal in July 2018

Montel reported that UK generators burnt a record low 85,000t of coal in July, down by half on the year, amid a diminishing coal fleet and a preference for alternative fuels, such as gas, preliminary government data showed. July’s volume was the lowest since the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (Beis) began collating the data in January 1995. Beis said that “Coal consumption [has fallen] due to lower coal-fired electricity generation as electricity generated from gas and bioenergy increases.”

Despite the decline in generation, coal imports rose by 20% on the year, to a four-month high of 816,000t, largely in order to replenish plant stocks, which had eroded over the winter demand period.

'Minister Wiebes gaf onjuiste informatie over kosten wind op zee'

Windparken op zee kunnen niet zonder subsidie. Dat schrijft de Algemene Rekenkamer in een nieuw rapport. De conclusie is opvallend, omdat minister Eric Wiebes in maart aan de Tweede Kamer schreef dat Nederland in 2022 de eerste windparken ter wereld krijgt die zonder subsidie draaien. Volgens de Rekenkamer ging de VVD-minister daarmee voorbij aan een belangrijk feit.

Wiebes houdt er hierbij namelijk geen rekening mee dat er ook een net op zee moet worden aangelegd, om de stroom van de windmolens naar het vaste land te transporteren. Dat net kost tot en met 2023 vier miljard euro. Landelijk netbeheerder Tennet is verantwoordelijk voor de aanleg van het net aan zee, maar ontvangt hiervoor subsidie. Die subsidie wordt gefinancierd via de energierekening van burgers en bedrijven, via de Opslag Duurzame Energie.

De conclusie van de Rekenkamer: 'De windparken die in 2022 worden opgeleverd voor de Nederlandse kust zullen dus niet de ‘eerste windparken ter wereld zijn die zonder subsidie worden gerealiseerd’, zoals de minister van EZK in maart van dit jaar aan de Tweede Kamer schreef'.

,,De minister heeft dus gejokt”, reageert PVV-Kamerlid Alexander Kops. ,,Voor de aansluiting op het elektriciteitsnet is wel degelijk subsidie nodig, en daar draaien de huishoudens via de energierekening - die al torenhoog is en steeds verder stijgt - voor op. Door deze leugen van de minister wordt er op een slinkse manier nóg meer geld uit de zakken van de burgers geklopt.”

Een derde
Dit schreef minister Wiebes van Economische Zaken en Klimaat in maart: 'Door drastisch lagere kosten worden er inmiddels windparken gebouwd zonder subsidie. Zo houden we de energietransitie betaalbaar. Door innovatie en concurrentie wordt duurzame energie steeds goedkoper, en tot nu toe sneller dan verwacht.'

De prijs van de energie die het windpark Hollandse Kust vanaf 2022 gaat leveren is 4,3 cent. Volgens de Rekenkamer vormt de subsidie voor het stroomnet op zee echter ruim een derde van die prijs. Tennet houdt er bovendien rekening mee dat 4 miljard euro niet voldoende is.

Wel constateert het controle-orgaan dat de kosten van windparken op zee snel dalen. De prijs van de stroom uit het park dat in 2022 gebouwd wordt is 70 procent lager dan de prijs die in 2013 gold. In het toenmalige Energieakkoord werd gemikt op een prijsdaling van 40 procent. Dat is dus ruim overtroffen.

SP-Kamerlid Sandra Beckerman noemt het 'bizar' om te beweren dat een windpark zonder subsidie draait. ,,Aan de andere kant is het wel zo dat de kosten van de windmolens en het transport naar land altijd uit elkaar worden getrokken. Dat heeft Wiebes ook gezegd in de Tweede Kamer. Toch is het niet slim van hem om te roepen dat het de overheid niets meer kost, terwijl we wél miljarden subsidie naar Tennet overmaken.”

Voor D66 komt het oordeel van de Rekenkamer niet als een verrassing. ,,We hebben jaren terug met z'n allen besloten om de aanlag van netten door Tennet te laten doen, dat betalen we natuurlijk met z'n allen”, zegt D66'er Rob Jetten. ,,Dat is voor de Kamer niet nieuw. Het is wel goed om te kijken hoe we dit in de toekomst doen met de vele parken die erbij komen.” Jetten noemt het 'mooi' dat wind op zee steeds goedkoper wordt.

Het was VVD-leider Mark Rutte die tijdens de verkiezingscampagne in 2010 nog sprak over ‘malle windmolens’, die ‘niet draaien op wind, maar op subsidie’. Daarover zei Wiebes in maart dit jaar dat dat ‘flauwe grapje’ écht niet meer gemaakt kan worden. ,,We hebben windmolens zonder subsidie exploitabel gemaakt”, zei de minister. ,,Dit is een doorbraak.”

Volgens een woordvoerder van het ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat heeft Wiebes de Tweede Kamer nooit voorgelogen. ,,Er is altijd gecommuniceerd dat het subsidievrij bouwen geldt voor windparken. De bekabeling en de aansluiting op het net gebeurt op kosten van de overheid.”

Plannen
Op de Noordzee leveren nu vier windparken stroom: Egmond, Amalia, Gemini en Luchterduinen. Voor drie nieuwe parken zijn vergunningen afgegeven: twee bij Borssele en Hollandse Kust (zuid). Daarnaast zijn er concrete plannen voor de aanleg van nog een aantal windparken die tot en met 2030 gebouwd gaan worden.

Voor die nog te vergunnen parken moet ook een stroomnet worden aangelegd. De kosten daarvan kunnen nog hoger uitpakken dan die van de infrastructuur die Tennet nu aanlegt. Dit omdat de parken die ná 2023 gebouwd worden verder uit de kust gepland zijn.

US coal consumption falls to 298 million short tonnes in H1 2018

Reuters reported that despite political support from the White House, US coal consumption continues to fall, as power producers shutter coal-fired units in favor of cheaper and more flexible natural gas as well as solar and wind. Electric power producers’ coal consumption fell to 298 million short tonnes in the H1 of 2018, down from 312 million in the same period in 2017, marginally below 2016, and the lowest since 1983. US power producers generated almost 6 percent less electricity from coal in the first half of the year even as total generation rose almost 5 percent and gas-fired generation was up 17 percent.

Coal-fired generation declined by 32 billion kilowatt hours in the first six months, while gas-fired generation rose by 89 billion, nuclear was up by 16 billion, solar rose 7 billion and wind was up by 15 billion.

Generators continued to close coal units, with coal-fired generating capacity down to 246 gigawatts at the end of June 2018, compared with 262 gigawatts in June 2017 and 273 gigawatts in June 2016.

Nabrawind installs world’s tallest steel wind turbine tower

Nabrawind Technologies has completed the installation of the world’s tallest onshore steel wind turbine tower in Eslava, Northern Spain. Standing at 160m tall, the Nabralift full-scale prototype was installed in under two weeks. The tower’s unique design means it can be installed, together with the turbine nacelle and rotor, via a patented self-erecting system using hydraulic jacks, enabling elevation by adding small frame modules at ground level, eliminating the need for massive cranes. The tower is a 20% lighter than the current steel towers and can be transported in standard trucks. The design of the tower also reduces the foundation size, and the installation process can be executed in small assembly platform, reducing the footprint as well as reducing the civil works cost.

The new generation of onshore 3MW-5MW turbines will require very tall towers to accommodate large blades and reach competitive wind speeds in the mainstream low-wind sites . This larger rotor diameter means that the turbine can generate more electricity, more efficiently resulting in less turbines needed to reach desired generation capacity. However, current tall tower technologies face design, logistic and installation challenges that are restraining the growth of this type of products.

Ion Arocena, Nabralift Programme Manager at Nabrawind Technologies, says:“The validation of our technology by means of this prototype marks an important milestone in our commercialisation. We’re confirming 15 to 20 per cent cost reduction versus conventional approaches like tubular steel or hybrid tower, and by next year we aim to produce and install up to 7 towers between 135 and 200 m height.”

The prototype will be tested after installation to demonstrate 25 years of operating life through fatigue load tests. Once complete, Nabrawind Technologies is set to install up to seven more towers in 2019, ranging up to 200m in height.

Grondeigenaren wilden geen toestemming
geven om zaterdag op hun terrein te
protesteren en ook energiebedrijf RWE,
dat delen van het bos in bezit heeft en
het wil kappen voor het winnen van
bruinkool,werkt niet mee.
