Kleine winst voor Japanse beurs

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse effectenbeurs is woensdag met een kleine winst geëindigd. Beleggers verwerkten de jaarlijkse State of the Union-toespraak van Donald Trump, waarin de Amerikaanse president liet weten eind februari de Noord-Koreaanse dictator Kim Jong-un te ontmoeten in Vietnam. De handel verliep verder opnieuw rustig doordat veel belangrijke Aziatische beurzen dicht bleven vanwege de viering van het Chinese nieuwjaar.

De hoofdindex in Tokio, de Nikkei 225, sloot uiteindelijk 0,1 procent hoger op 20.874,06 punten. De Japanse cosmeticabedrijven waren in trek na sterke resultaten van de Amerikaanse branchegenoot Estée Lauder, die werden gedreven door een robuuste groei in China. Het grootste cosmeticabedrijf in Japan Shiseido, dat veel producten verkoopt in China, dikte 4,6 procent aan. Andere cosmeticaverkopers als Fancl en Kose wonnen tot 3,5 procent.

Autobouwer Suzuki zakte 4,3 procent na een winstdaling in het afgelopen kwartaal. Ook de grote concurrent Toyota zag de winst afgelopen kwartaal fors afnemen. Het concern verlaagde tevens de winstverwachting voor het lopende boekjaar. Het aandeel verloor 0,7 procent.

In Sydney ging de All Ordinaries met een plus van 0,3 procent de dag uit. De Australische banken deden een stapje terug na de sterke koerswinsten een dag eerder. In Shanghai, Hongkong en Seoul waren de beurzen gesloten.

NTT completes 8.5 MW of solar plants in Japan

Renewables Now reported that Japanese firm NTT Facilities Inc announced today it has completed work on 8.5 MW of solar power plants in Tochigi and Hiroshima prefectures. Located in the towns of Nikko and Higashihiroshima, these photovoltaic (PV) power plants are the 84th and 85th of its kind owned by NTT in the country.

The 5.7-MW F Nikko Arasawa Solar Power Plant has an estimated annual generation of 5,854 MWh, enough to meet the power demand of 1,620 local homes.

The 2.8-MW F Shiwa Solar Power Plant, located in Hiroshima, in turn will be producing an estimated 3,231 MWh of electricity per year, enough to cover the consumption of 1,080 local households.

According to the company, F Shiwa's solar panels are facing east and west, instead of north and south, thus increasing capacity by 23% and annual power generation by 18%.

SoftBank uitblinker op Japanse beurs

TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan is donderdag lager gesloten. Vooral de Japanse exportbedrijven werden van de hand gedaan door zorgen over een afnemende groei van de bedrijfswinsten. Het Japanse conglomeraat SoftBank was een uitzondering en werd fors hoger gezet na een positief kwartaalbericht.

De Nikkei-index in Tokio eindigde 0,6 procent in de min op 20.751,28 punten. Bedrijven als Toyota, Suzuki en Panasonic, die veel producten verkopen in het buitenland, verloren tot 3,1 procent. Veel van de Japanse exporteurs kwamen recent met tegenvallende resultaten en verlaagden hun winstverwachtingen. Automaker Mazda won daarentegen 6,4 procent na een verhoging van de prognose.

SoftBank maakte een koerssprong van bijna 18 procent en klom tot het hoogste niveau sinds midden oktober. Het Japanse conglomeraat boekte afgelopen kwartaal fors meer winst dankzij hogere waarderingen van zijn portefeuille van technologie-investeringen. Ook gaat het bedrijf voor miljarden aan eigen aandelen inkopen.

In Sydney sloot de All Ordinaries 1,1 procent hoger dankzij sterke koerswinsten onder de Australische banken. In Seoul keerden beleggers terug na de viering van het Chinese nieuwjaar en noteerde de Kospi tussentijds 0,2 procent in de plus. In Shanghai en Hongkong waren de beurzen nog gesloten.

Nippon Steel cuts profit forecast on lower output

Reuters reported that Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp has warned that its annual profit would be 6% less than previously forecast, citing lower crude steel output for the financial year ending on March 31. The company now estimates its annual profit will be JPY 330 billion (USD 3.01 billion), down from its earlier guidance of JPY 350 billion. Nippon Steel also reduced its estimate for its annual crude steel output to 41.3 million tonnes from 42.1 million tonnes on a parent basis, due to troubles at its mills.

Nippon Steel Executive Vice President Katsuhiro Miyamoto told “The troubles reflect the lower quality of raw materials, as well as the difficulties in producing value-added products such as high-tensile steels that can’t be processed in the same volumes as lower-quality metal.”

Nippon Steel’s downward revision follows similar moves by its peers JFE Steel, a unit of JFE Holdings, and Kobe Steel. JFE announced its results on Friday and Kobe on Tuesday.

Nissan will have to reapply for UK funding after X-Trail decision

Automotive News reported that British Business Minister Mr Greg Clark said Nissan will need to reapply for up to 80 million pounds (USD 104 million) in financial aid after the automaker canceled plans to build the X-Trail at its UK factory. The government promised the support in 2016 when Nissan said it would add production of diesel versions of the X-Trail SUV at its plant in Sunderland, England. On Sunday, Nissan said it would consolidate production of the next-generation X-Trail in Japan, citing Brexit concerns and falling diesel sales..

Mr Clark told parliament on Monday that Nissan would need to re-apply for the funding because the terms of its investment had changed. He said that of 61 million pounds' worth of grants which had already been approved, only 2.6 million pounds had so far been paid to Nissan.

Mr Clark also on Monday released the text of a letter he sent to Nissan in 2016 detailing the government’s support proposals. Previously the government had refused to publish the letter on multiple occasions, leading to accusations of back-door deals.

Nissan said it took the decision on the X-Trail for business reasons, with continued uncertainty surrounding future UK-European Union relations "not helping."

The move follows a 46 percent drop in UK auto investments last year as automakers delayed decisions on upgrading machinery and factories.

Nissan sought to allay concerns of its Sunderland employees, saying it will go ahead with planned spending on the next-generation Juke and Qashqai models.

Toyota nine month net profit dives 30pct

Tooyota Motor Corporation announced its financial results for the nine-month period ended December31, 2018. Consolidated vehicle sales totaled 6,700,902units, an increase of 22,623 units compared to the same period last fiscal year. On a consolidated basis, net revenues for the period totaled 22.4755 trillion yen, an increase of 3.1percent. Operating income increased from 1.7701trillion yen to 1.9379 trillion yen.

Its net profit for the nine months to December came to 1.42 trillion yen, down 29.3 percent from the same period the previous year. Operating profit rose 9.5 percent to 1.94 trillion yen on sales of 22.5 trillion yen, an increase of 3.1 percent.

CATL and Honda plan to co operate on EV battery development

Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd and Honda Motor have signed an agreement to co-operate on jointly developing lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles, as China's top EV battery maker expands its tie-ups with Japanese automakers. CATL said that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Honda under which it would guarantee supply of lithium-ion EV batteries with storage capacity of around 56 gigawatt hours (GWh) to the automaker by 2027, and set up an office near Honda's research unit in Tochigi Prefecture, outside Tokyo.

Honda spokeswoman Tomoko Takemori said that "The agreement focuses on supply of EV batteries in Asia declining to give further details on which of its models would use CATL batteries. We could also consider some supply for the North American market."

Sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that the agreement to explore using CATL technology in Honda EVs was part of Honda's moves to diversify its battery supply bases to ensure stable stock in the longer term, and that the Japanese automaker has also been in talks with other battery makers, including current supplier Panasonic Corp.

Suzuki announces the financial results for FY2018

Outline of the Financial Results for FY2018 Third Quarter
The consolidated net sales for FY2018 third quarter (April 2018 to December 2018) increased by JPY 113.9 billion (4.2%) to JPY 2,838.8 billion year-on-year. The operating income for the October-December period decreased, following the July-September period, mainly owing to the impact of the depreciation of currencies of the emerging countries including the Indian Rupee and the increase in selling expenses. The operating income for the April-December period decreased by JPY 3.3 billion (1.3%) to JPY 256.5 billion year-on-year.

On the other hand, the ordinary income increased by JPY 21.5 billion (7.6%) to JPY 306.1 billion year-on-year partly owing to the increase in interest income. Net income attributable to owners of the parent increased by JPY 16.5 billion (10.0%) to JPY 180.8 billion year-on-year.

In the automobile business, the overseas automobile net sales decreased year-on-year mainly owing to the impact of the depreciation of currencies of the emerging countries. However, the net sales of the automobile business increased by JPY 107.0 billion (4.3%) to JPY 2,596.6 billion year-on-year owing to the increase in the Japanese domestic automobile net sales, which increased year-on-year mainly owing to the sales contribution of the Spacia and XBEE. The operating income decreased by JPY 4.2 billion (1.7%) to JPY 244.1 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the depreciation of currencies of the emerging countries and the increase in selling expenses.

In the motorcycle business, the net sales increased by JPY 1.2 billion (0.7%) to JPY 182.2 billion year-on-year. The operating income decreased by JPY 1.5 billion to JPY 0.1 billion year-on-year.

In the marine business, etc. the net sales increased by JPY 5.7 billion (10.5%) to JPY 60.0 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the sales contribution of large outboard motor DF350A in North America. The operating income increased by JPY 2.4 billion (23.7%) to JPY 12.3 billion year-on-year mainly owing to the improvement in profit in North America.

With respect to the operating results by geographic region, although Japan, Europe, and other areas increased, Asia decreased by JPY 19.0 billion (13.5%) to JPY 121.6 billion year-on-year.

Forecasts for the Consolidated Operating Results
With respect to the consolidated business forecasts, as a result of reflecting this third quarter results and revising the figures including the outlook of sales units and foreign exchange rate of each country, the Company decided to keep the business forecasts unchanged from the previous forecasts. The Group will work as one to reform in every field and pursue the business activity to accomplish more than the below forecasts for the consolidated operating results.

Nikkei fors lager door handelszorgen

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse effectenbeurs is vrijdag flink lager geëindigd. De handelsvrees keerde terug nadat de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump bevestigde dat hij de Chinese president Xi Jinping deze maand niet zal ontmoeten om een handelsdeal te sluiten. De deadline van de huidige wapenstilstand tussen beide landen loopt op 1 maart af.

De Nikkei in Tokio ging met een verlies van 2 procent het weekeinde in op 20.333,17 punten. Japanse bedrijven die veel producten verkopen in China werden van de hand gedaan. Robotmaker Fanuc en bouwmachinemaker Hitachi Construction Machinery verloren 4 en 4,4 procent. Cameramaker Nikon kelderde bijna 12 procent na een verlaging van de winstverwachting. Sony klom daarentegen meer dan 4 procent. Het technologiebedrijf kwam voor het eerst met een aandeleninkoop naar buiten specifiek gericht op het belonen van aandeelhouders.

In India zag Tata Motors ruim 18 procent aan beurswaarde verdampen. Het aandeel beleefde de grootste koersdaling in 26 jaar. Het Indiase autoconcern leed zijn grootste kwartaalverlies ooit, door een mega-afschrijving op Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Die Britse maker van luxeauto's kampt met forse tegenwind door brexitzorgen, de handelsoorlog en een teruglopende vraag naar dieselwagens in Europa.

Elders in het Verre Oosten gingen de beurzen ook omlaag. In Hongkong keerden beleggers terug na de viering van het Chinese nieuwjaar en noteerde de Hang Seng-index tussentijds 0,3 procent in de min. De Kospi in Seoul zakte 1,2 procent. In Sydney sloot de All Ordinaries 0,3 procent lager na een verlaging van de economische groeiprognoses door de Australische centrale bank. In Shanghai bleven de beurzen de hele week dicht.

Sony beloont aandeelhouders met inkoop

TOKIO (AFN) - Elektronicagigant Sony gaat eigen aandelen inkopen. Het is voor het eerst dat het Japanse concern met zo'n programma naar buiten komt specifiek gericht om aandeelhouders te belonen.

In totaal wil Sony voor 100 miljard yen, omgerekend zo'n 802 miljoen euro, aan eigen aandelen inkopen in de periode tot en met 22 maart. Dat komt volgens het bedrijf neer op ongeveer 2,4 procent van het aantal uitstaande effecten.

Sony voerde in 2004 een kleine aandeleninkoop uit, maar deze was specifiek gericht op de fusie van het PlayStation-onderdeel met het moederbedrijf. De nu aangekondigde inkoop is speciaal gericht op het rendement van aandeelhouder, aldus Sony nu.

De stap volgt na de teleurstellende resultaten die de onderneming onlangs publiceerde en gaf de waarde van het aandeel een zetje. Beleggers maken zich zorgen over de toestand van de wereldwijde tech-industrie, te midden van een afnemende vraag in het voor de sector belangrijke China. Sony is het tweede grote Japanse bedrijf dat deze week met een grote inkoop komt. Eerder kondigde het conglomeraat SoftBank een programma aan van 900 miljard yen.

Subaru cuts annual profit forecast on plant outage

Subaru Corp slashed its full year outlook as the Japanese automaker struggled with production and issues stemming from a defect in one of its components. Japan's smallest major automaker said it now expects a full-year operating profit of 185 billion yen, instead of a previously expected 220 billion yen.

Subaru has been battered by a series of production issues ranging from faulty components to inspection do-overs which have stemmed from improper final tests on cars sold in the domestic market.

Last month, the maker of the Legacy sedan and the Forester SUV crossover halted production at its sole car factory in Japan for nearly two weeks, holding up roughly 60 percent of its global output after it found a suspected defect in a power steering component.

Mazda sales continue to grow across Europe in third quarter

Mazda Motor Corporation announced its global sales and financial results for the first nine months of fiscal 2018-19, selling a total of 1,170,000 units around the world during this period. Demand for the company’s crossover models remained strong and the introduction of several updated models Mazda6, CX-3 and MX-5 drove sales momentum towards the end of first nine months.

As in first half of the fiscal year, the ASEAN region saw the highest year-on-year increase in vehicle sales in the nine months from 1 April to 31 December, with unit sales up 26% to 104,000 and Japan contributed to the growth with a 7.0% lift in sales to 150,000 units. North America sold 320,000 units, maintaining a stable level year-on-year. Sales in Europe* were 196,000 units, up 2.0% year-on-year, with strong growth continuing in Spain with 16,000 vehicles sold (+10.0%) and the UK with 25,000 units (+6.0%). Sales in Europe were driven by the Mazda2 and the Mazda CX-5, up 8.0% and 15.0% year-on-year respectively.

Mazda’s sales performance during the first nine months brought in revenue of JPY 2,622.6 billion (EUR 20.3 billion**), resulting in an operating profit of JPY 59.6 billion (EUR 462.0 million**) and net income of JPY 37.0 billion (EUR 286.8 million**).

Closely monitoring the environment on an ongoing basis, Mazda’s full-year forecast has been revised to reflect the current status of sales volume and exchange rate assumptions. The full-year forecast of global sales volume is now 1,569,000 (previously 1,617,000) and operating profit of JPY 80 billion (EUR 625.0 million; previously ¥70 billion) and net income of JPY 55 billion (EUR 429.7 million; previously ¥50 billion).

With the next generation of products from Mazda currently being launched, which started with the all-new Mazda3 revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November 2018 and will continue with the new crossover being revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, the company anticipates this growth to continue during 2019.

TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurzen in het Verre Oosten lieten maandag een gemengd beeld zien. Beleggers hielden de blik vooral gericht op de handelsbesprekingen tussen de Verenigde Staten en China die later deze week in Peking worden gehouden. De handel verliep verder relatief rustig aangezien de belangrijke financiële markt in Japan gesloten was vanwege een nationale feestdag.

De beurs in Shanghai, die afgelopen week de hele week dicht was vanwege de viering van het Chinees Nieuwjaar, noteerde tussentijds 0,8 procent hoger. De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong ging tussentijds 0,2 procent omhoog en de Kospi in Seoul dikte 0,1 procent aan. In Sydney eindigde de All Ordinaries 0,2 procent lager door koersverliezen onder de Australische banken.

TOKIO (AFN) - In Japan, waar beleggers terugkeerden na een lang weekeinde, is de aandelenbeurs dinsdag flink hoger gesloten. Een daling van de Japanse yen bood steun aan de handel na eerdere zware koersverliezen. Daarnaast werd gehoopt op een goed verloop van de handelsgesprekken tussen de Verenigde Staten en China, die deze week in Peking worden gehouden.

De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio eindigde met een winst van 2,6 procent op 20.864,21 punten. Japanse exportbedrijven profiteerden van de goedkopere yen. Zo stegen autofabrikant Mazda en chiptester Advantest respectievelijk 2,7 en 5 procent. Autobouwer Isuzu Motors dikte bijna 8 procent aan dankzij beter dan verwachte resultaten. Technologiebedrijf Toshiba raakte daarentegen 5,9 procent kwijt. Volgens zakenkrant Nikkei gaat het concern zijn winstverwachting voor het lopende boekjaar verlagen.

Elders in het Verre Oosten gingen de meeste beurzen licht vooruit. De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,3 procent in de plus. De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong bleef vrijwel vlak en de Kospi in Seoul klom 0,6 procent. De Zuid-Koreaanse technologiegiganten Samsung en SK Hynix stegen 2,8 en 2,4 procent. In Sydney sloot de All Ordinaries 0,3 procent hoger onder aanvoering van de Australische energiebedrijven.

'Nissan wilde groter belang in Renault'

TOKIO (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Automaker Nissan heeft vorig jaar aangestuurd op een groter belang in partner Renault. Dat gebeurde tijdens een direct overleg met de Franse staat over een mogelijke fusie tussen de twee bedrijven, schrijft de Amerikaanse krant The Wall Street Journal.

Nissan liet tijdens dat overleg weten niets te zien in een fusie. Wel wilde Nissan zijn belang in Renault vergroten en moesten de Fransen dan op hun beurt een deel van hun aandelen in Nissan van de hand doen, gaf topbestuurder Hari Nada aan.

Nissan wilde dat die betere balans tussen de twee automakers ook in nieuwe contracten zou worden uitgedrukt zodat geen van beide partners de overhand zou hebben in de alliantie. Zowel Renault als Nissan weigerde commentaar.

Het is de laatste tijd hommeles bij de autoconcerns. Voormalig topman Carlos Ghosn, die baas was van zowel Renault, Nissan als Mitsubishi, zit al sinds november vast in Japan op verdenking van fraude bij Nissan. De arrestatie van de autobaas heeft tot spanningen geleid binnen de alliantie Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi. Er gaan al langer geruchten dat dat Nissan de situatie wil gebruiken om de verhoudingen binnen de alliantie gelijk te trekken.

Automakers recall 1.7 million cars with fatal airbags

CNBC reported that Subaru, Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler Vans, Mercedes and Ferrari are recalling about 1.7 million vehicles to replace potentially deadly air bag inflators made by Takata Corp of Japan. The inflators can hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers. At least 23 people have died from the problem worldwide and hundreds more were injured. The moves, announced by the US government, are part of the largest series of automotive recalls in US history. About 10 million inflators are being recalled in the US this year, with as many as 70 million to be recalled by the time the whole mess ends late next year.

Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate the air bags. But the chemical can deteriorate over time due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity.

The recalls, which began in 2001, are being phased in over time and managed by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Many of the recalls are limited to specific geographic regions in the US Owners can check to see if their vehicles have been recalled by going to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and keying in a 17-digit vehicle identification number.

In the latest round, Subaru is recalling 826,144 vehicles, including various Forester, Legacy and Outback models from 2010 to 2014. Mercedes is recalling 288,779 vehicles from model years 2010 to 2017. Volkswagen is recalling 119,394 vehicles, including Audi and Passat models from 2015 to 2017. BMW is recalling 266,044 vehicles from 2000 to 2004 model years and the 2007 to 2015 model years.

The recalls also include 159,689 vehicles from Daimler Vans spanning model years 2015 to 2017. Tesla is recalling 68,763 Model S vehicles from 2014 to 2016 and Ferrari is recalling 11,176 vehicles of various models ranging from 2014 to 2018 model years.

Nissan shares its vision for electrification in Thailand

Speaking at the International Conference on Energy 4.0: Designing the Future of Thailand’s Power Sector, Peter Galli, Nissan’s vice president for communications in Thailand, emphasized how technological innovations under Nissan Intelligent Mobility continue to drive the Thai automotive industry. Honda bevestigt sluiten enige Britse fabriek

SWINDON (ANP/RTR) - Autofabrikant Honda wil zijn enige Britse fabriek, in Swindon, in 2022 sluiten. De Japanse autobouwer bevestigde een voorstel daartoe, na berichtgeving in verschillende Britse media. Op de locatie werken 3500 mensen.

De fabriek in Swindon was vorig jaar goed voor de productie van 160.000 auto's, met name die van het populaire model Civic. De fabriek is goed voor circa 10 procent van de totale Britse autoproductie van ruim 1,5 miljoen auto's. Honda zei onlangs nog dat het de fabriek in Swindon in april zes dagen sluit vanwege de brexit. De automaker wil onder meer mogelijke problemen met de douane tackelen als de Britten uit de Europese Unie zijn gestapt. Ook zou Honda om die reden productie naar voren willen halen en voorraden willen aanleggen.

De Britse overheid is zeer teleurgesteld in de beslissing van Honda om de fabriek te sluiten, aldus handelsminister Greg Clark. Hij sprak van een verwoestende beslissing voor Swindon.

Kleine winst voor Japanse beurs

TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse effectenbeurs is dinsdag met een kleine winst gesloten. Beleggers namen wat gas terug na de sterke opmars een dag eerder en keken vooral uit naar de nieuwe ronde van handelsgesprekken tussen de Verenigde Staten en China, die deze week in Washington plaatsvinden. Elders in het Verre Oosten gingen de meeste beurzen licht omlaag.

De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio ging 0,1 procent hoger de dag uit op 21.302,65 punten. De spoorwegbedrijven East Japan Railway en Central Japan Railway, die als defensieve beleggingen worden gezien, stegen 2 en 1,6 procent. Exportbedrijven als robotmaker Fanuc en technologieconcern Panasonic zakten 0,3 en 0,7 procent.

Telecomconcern Softbank verloor 3,3 procent. Volgens zakenkrant The Wall Street Journal zijn de belangrijkste investeerders, waaronder het Saudi-Arabische staatsfonds, niet tevreden over de hoge waarde van het Vision Fund van Softbank. Dat fonds is bedoeld voor grote investeringen in snelgroeiende technologiebedrijven.

In Shanghai noteerde de beurs tussentijds 0,2 procent in de min en de Hang Seng-index in Hongkong verloor 0,4 procent. De Britse bank HSBC, die ook een notering heeft in Hongkong, zakte 1,6 procent na publicatie van tegenvallende kwartaalcijfers. De Kospi in Seoul daalde 0,2 procent en de All Ordinaries in Sydney eindigde 0,3 procent hoger. Het Brits-Australische mijnbouwconcern BHP Billiton sloot vlak voorafgaand aan de publicatie van de resultaten.

Nissan panel to recommend outside director to chair board - Nikkei

Nikkei business daily reported that a Nissan Motor governance committee will recommend the appointment of an external director as board chairman, a role distinct from company chairman, in a move to decentralise power at the top level. Under Nissan's current corporate charter, the position of board chair is automatically appointed to head the company board, the Nikkei said citing a source. Former Chairman Carlos Ghosn had filled both roles prior to his arrest in November for under-reporting his salary for eight years.

The issue of Nissan's chairmanship is now particularly important after the Japanese firm identified the concentration of power in one executive as one of the reasons Ghosn was able to carry out his alleged fiscal misconduct. Speculation has swirled about whether the newly appointed chairman of France's Renault, Jean-Dominique Senard, would assume the chairmanship of the Japanese automaker.

The Nikkei report comes after the governance committee said in a statement that the separation between operation and oversight was among topics discussed on Friday at the committee's third meeting since it was formed in December after Ghosn's arrest.

The panel, comprising three Nissan external board directors and four third-party members, is scheduled to make recommendations to Nissan's board in March on how to tighten lax governance and approval processes for matters including director compensation and chairman selection.
