Advent, CVC Are Said to Bid $1.9 Billion for Serie A Media Stake -- Private equity firms Advent International and CVC Capital
Partners are bidding about 1.6 billion euros ($1.9 billion) for part of a new media company that has broadcast rights to Italy’s Serie A
soccer league, people familiar with the matter said. Italy’s FSI fund is also part of the binding offer, which would give the investors a
10% stake, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. The coalition could help win over the
presidents of Italy’s soccer clubs, who have been divided over a potential deal. The Serie A league is home to many of the sport’s
biggest stars, including Juventus Football Club SpA’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of AC Milan SpA, and the new media
company is an attempt to capitalize on valuable broadcast rights. But some teams have been worried about a loss of control. Bain
Capital filed an offer for a 10% stake as well -- at a somewhat lower price -- according to the people. Serie A board will discuss bids
Sept. 9, they said. A representative for the league declined to comment. In June, Advent made a bid for a direct stake in Serie A,
valuing the league at about 13 billion euros, people familiar with the matter said at the time. Serie A generated revenue of about 2.5
billion euros in the 2018-2019 season, with almost 60% coming from broadcasting.
Er gaat structureel meer geld om in voetbal en aangezien Ajax een per saldo 'producent' is van voetbal kan Ajax zijn 'producten' ook tegen een hogere prijs kwijt en komt er dus meer geld binnen.
