Verbaas me erover dat mensen zo weinig lezen. Onlangs het boek: De duistere bank van David Enrich gelezen. Geeft zijdelings toch een goede beschrijving van Trump. Ongelooflijk hoeveel bedrijven hij failliet heeft laten gaan en daar toch telkens mee wegkomt. Maar echte twee goede boeken waren die van Bill Browder. Vijand van de Russische Staat en achtervolgd door de Staatsmaffia.

In KO heb ik een heel slechte timing daarentegen maakt mijn timing in uranium dit verlies ruimschoots goed. Het is allemaal timing en geluk dat beleggen. Nagelaten de inside information.

Beetje komkommertijd hier.
Weinig slachtoffers in de Oekraïne is dan positief.
Aangezien dit een onderdeel van een beleggingssite is iets vertellen over beleggingen.

Jaren geleden had ik 2000 aandelen HAL in portefeuille. De cruise maatschappij. Koers schommelde tussen de 68 en 72 gulden. En dat twee jaar achter elkaar. Flut aandeel dus. Op een regenachtige grijze mistroostige vrijdagmiddag verkocht ik het hele zootje. In dat weekend werd de HAL verkocht aan Carnival en opende de koers ‘s maandagsochtends op exact 700 gulden.
Over timing, geluk gesproken. Weet een ding zeker: de heren van der Voren (als ik het goed heb) zijnde grootaandeelhouders uit Rotterdam hadden deze deal perfect geheim gehouden. De koers was geen dubbeltje omhoog gegaan voor de transactie. Chapeau.

Moet ik nou aan de verstandelijke vermogens van de stemmers op Kaag en Rutte twijfelen, of aan de verstandelijke vermogens vna de Trump-stemmers?

In ieder geval is Trump van een andere orde (o.a. steun van Rusland, fabrieksmatige leugens, ondermijning van de democratie, het geloof misbruiken voor het verkrijgen van macht) dan Rutte en Kaag.

Hoe houden ze het uit?
Ik denk dat Nederland zo’n twintig partijen heeft doch merk vaak dat hier elke kiezer een partij is.
Zoveel discussies met verwaterende uitkomsten.
Geen wonder dat ik zo weg ben van de bestuursvorm die er in Singapore is,

NOVOSELIVKA, Ukraine (AP) — As battles raged around Kyiv, one Russian advance was stopped in front of Maria Metla’s home. Artillery gutted most of the house, while the rest was pulverized by tank fire.

Metla, 66, is now counting on her neighbors to have somewhere to live this winter.

Crews of volunteers turn up on most mornings to prize away anything that can be reused ? setting up neat piles of bricks, destroyed kitchen appliances for scrap metal, and chunks of insulation panels.

The salvaged material is reused to help rebuild homes destroyed along the perimeter of Russia’s failed attempt during the initial stages of the war to surround and capture Ukraine’s capital.

The village of Novoselivka, 140 kilometers (nearly 90 miles) north of Kyiv, was a scene of intense fighting during the 36-day attack on the capital. Metal doors are buckled by bullet holes from heavy machine-gun fire and houses like Metla’s were smashed by ground and aerial bombardment.

“We dragged what we could to the basement. Five bombs ? one, two, three, four, five ? exploded in the field behind us,” Meta said while standing in what used to be the living room of her destroyed home. She keeps a burned exercise bike and a religious icon of St. Nicholas as reminders of life before the war.

Ukraine’s authorities said last month that the country had suffered more than $100 billion ? equivalent to two-thirds of its 2020 gross domestic product ? in infrastructure damage alone but estimate that the reconstruction effort could cost more than seven times that amount.

Officials are appealing to Western countries to tap frozen Russian assets on top of what they are willing to donate to help pay for the bill.

Container homes from Poland are being set up near Novoselivka, a village filled with orchards, sunflower patches, and back gardens with chickens, outside the historic northern city of Chernihiv. But the scale of the damage has prompted scores of local initiatives.

“In many other countries, if your home is destroyed, you might put up a ‘For Sale’ sign and move to another town. It’s not like that here,” said Andriy Galyuga, a local volunteer organizer. “People are very attached to where they are from and they don’t want to leave.”

Galyuga’s organization, Bomozhemo, is in contact with similar initiatives that have sprung up all around the Ukrainian capital.

At one smashed home, Galyuga bounds up a broken stairwell to direct a 25-member crew of volunteers loading salvaged cinder blocks onto a slide and determinedly prying off construction material with pickaxes and crowbars.

Children and retired women help the effort watched by the worried home owner, Zhanna Dynaeva, who makes food for the workers, many of whom have also lost their homes.

The gaunt-looking Dynaeva, is staying with a friend, but visits her home daily to maintain an immaculate garden. She carries trays of drinks and sandwiches on the day the volunteers came to visit.

“I am so grateful to them. People around me have helped so much,” she said. As she gives an account of her escape from the bombardment, Dynaeva bursts into tears and is hugged by her homeless neighbor, Metla.

Ukraine says it has taken out another bridge that is vital for Russian forces occupying the southern Kherson region.

It says the bridge on the dam at Nova Kakhovka - which it has attacked before - is now impassable. The claim has not been independently verified.

It comes just weeks after the key Antonivsky Bridge was put out of action by Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine is waging a counter-offensive towards Kherson city, which Russia captured in the early days of the war.

"The destruction of the road bridge of the Nova Kakhovka dam was ensured, with the result that it was taken out of operation," the Ukrainian army's Operational Command South posted to Facebook.

In a daily intelligence update, UK defence officials said Ukrainian precision strikes were likely to have made the road crossing over the Dnieper River "unusable for heavy military vehicles". Nova Kakhovka lies about 55km (34 miles) north-east of Kherson.

Russian forces had only succeeded in making superficial repairs to the main Antonivsky Bridge, the officials said, which Western military sources said was "completely unusable" after a Himars artillery rocket attack last month.

The main rail bridge near Kherson was also further damaged last week, the UK update said.

"Even if Russia manages to make significant repairs to the bridges, they will remain a key vulnerability," the UK defence ministry said.

It added that thousands of Russian troops west of the river were now "almost certainly reliant on just two pontoon ferry crossing points" for ground resupplies.

Military analysts say there is a growing risk of the troops being cut off from the rest of main Russian occupying forces.

The attack is part of a Ukrainian effort to isolate Russian troops, with the ultimate goal of recapturing the entire region.

If it proves successful the ambitious campaign would provide a boost for Kyiv by retaking from Russia the only regional capital it has so far captured since the invasion in February.

Kherson, which had a population of about 290,000 before the war, is currently administered by Moscow-backed officials.

Last month, Russia said its military focus was no longer only on eastern Ukraine but on its southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia too.

Hapless Russian air defence tries and fails to stop Ukraine strike on key bridge - WATCH

VLADIMIR PUTIN was dealt a humiliating blow last night after Ukrainian forces blew up a key supply line bridge that Russian troops had desperately tried to repair.

The Ukrainian forces struck the Antonovsky bridge for a second night in a row, amid failed Russian attempts to intercept the rockets. Ukraine turned to US-supplied HIMARS, which bypassed Russian air defence efforts to stop the strikes. The multiple rocket launcher struck the bridge several times in an attack caught on camera.

The night-time missile strike also appeared to destroy equipment the Russians were using to repair the bridge.

The successful attack effectively cuts off and traps thousands of Russian troops in the occupied city of Kherson.

The key Antonovsky Bridge on the Dnipro river is one of the few ways Russia has to resupply its armed forces.

Ukraine is slowly encircling the city, which remains the only regional capital to have fallen to President Putin's troops in the war.

Remarking on the footage, @JayinKyiv tweeted: "The futility of Russian air defense's multiple attempts, several absolute precision strikes by Ukrainian HiMARS early this morning on Antonovsky Bridge.

"Incredible accuracy. Russia can do nothing."

Due to the damage to Russia’s supply line into Kherson, on Saturday the British Ministry of Defence claimed Russian forces in the area are restricted to just two pontoon bridges.

Before last night's strikes on the bridge, the MoD stated: "In recent days, Russia has only succeeded in making superficial repairs to the damaged Antonivsky road bridge which likely remains structurally undermined."

China-linked spies used six backdoors to steal info from defense, industrial enterprise orgs

Beijing-backed cyberspies used specially crafted phishing emails and six different backdoors to break into and then steal confidential data from military and industrial groups, government agencies and other public institutions, according to Kaspersky researchers.

We're told the security shop's industrial control systems (ICS) response team initially detected a series of targeted attacks back in January that compromised more than a dozen of organizations in several Eastern European countries, including Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine, and Afghanistan.

"The attackers were able to penetrate dozens of enterprises and even hijack the IT infrastructure of some, taking control of systems used to manage security solutions," the team wrote in a report published on Monday.

Kaspersky attributed the attacks "with a high degree of confidence" to Chinese cybercrime gang TA428, which has a history of targeting East Asian and Russian military and research institutes.

The ICS research team identified malware and command-and-control servers based in China, and added that this more recent series of attacks is "highly likely" to be an extension of an ongoing cyberespionage campaign, previously spotted by other research teams.

They also sound very similar to another campaign, dubbed Twisted Panda, carried out by Chinese cyberspies and targeting Russian defense institutes, uncovered by Check Point Research in May.

According to Kaspersky, the miscreants gained access to the enterprise networks via phishing emails, some of which included organization-specific information that wasn't publicly available.

"This could indicate that the attackers did preparatory work in advance (they may have obtained the information in earlier attacks on the same organization or its employees, or on other organizations or individuals associated with the victim organization)," the researchers explained.

Presumably, because these specially-crafted attacks included confidential information about the victim org, it was easier for the attackers to trick some employees into opening the email — and a Microsoft Word document attached to it. The Word doc contained malicious code, which exploited the CVE-2017-11882 vulnerability to deploy PortDoor malware on the infected machine without any additional user activity. For example, the user didn't need to enable macros, as is typical in these types of attacks.

PortDoor malware is a relatively new backdoor believed to be developed by Chinese state-sponsored groups that was also used in a 2021 phishing attack against a Russian-based defense contractor that designs nuclear submarines for the Russian Federation's Navy.

Volgens Oekraïne komen de Russische bezetters steeds meer in de problemen bij Cherson, een grote stad in het zuiden die de Russen konden veroveren door de rivier Dnjepr over te steken.
Inmiddels zijn alle bruggen daar door de Oekraïense strijdkrachten beschadigd. De Russen zijn als reactie hun commandocentra uit de stad naar de overkant van de rivier aan het verplaatsen, aldus Oekraïne. De Russen kunnen zich dan makkelijker terugtrekken in bezet gebied, mocht dat nodig zijn. De bruggen zijn nog wel te voet te gebruiken, maar de Russen zijn vooral aangewezen op pontons, melden Oekraïense autoriteiten verder.
Cherson is een van de weinige plaatsen die de Russen hebben veroverd ten westen van de Dnjepr, die midden door Oekraïne stroomt. In de stad zouden zich nog ongeveer 20.000 Russische militairen bevinden. De Russen namen Cherson vrij snel in na de invasie bijna zes maanden geleden

Inside Ukrainian drone school where being a PlayStation guru counts as a useful skill

At a training centre in the outskirts of Kyiv, soldiers take a crash course on how to fly unmanned vehicles for the war effort

On a muddy field on the outskirts of Kyiv, soldiers hunched over handheld controls and talk to each other in hushed voices about which way to direct the drone that hums overhead.

It takes a certain skill to successfully navigate the drone, explained Oleksandr, 45, the head of the Dronarium training centre – and it doesn’t come from traditional military training.

“For someone who plays PlayStations, it’s easier,” Oleksandr, who cannot give his full name for security reasons, told The Telegraph.

Between 30 and 35 soldiers are enrolled on each five-day course, having been sent to the centre by their military units. With 15 different types of drones available, the soldiers fly the lightweight devices – which weigh no more than 250g (8.9oz) – between a four- and seven-kilometre range as they role-play scenarios they are likely to encounter on the battlefield.

The drones included the DJI Mavic Mini, Mavic Air and Mavic Pro. Although not the latest models, the devices can cost up to £1,700.

Iran seeks three more Khayyam satellites

Iran says it plans to commission three more versions of a satellite launched this week by Russia, which prompted accusations of spying by Moscow in Ukraine.

The Khayyam satellite was blasted into orbit on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket on Tuesday from the Moscow-controlled Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Ahead of the launch, The Washington Post quoted anonymous Western intelligence officials as saying that Russia "plans to use the satellite for several months or longer" to assist its Ukraine war effort before allowing Iran to take control.

Iran's space agency stressed on Sunday that it would control the satellite "from day one", in an apparent reaction to the Post's report.

EU mulls Russia visa ban

The Czech Republic, which holds the rotating EU presidency, says that a blanket ban on visas for all Russian travellers could be the bloc's next sanction on Moscow.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky says he will propose the idea at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague at the end of August.

The EU has so far come up with six sanction packages against Russia.

The T-90: Russia's most modern main battle tank? – Given Russia's longtime reliance on the employment of massive quantities of armor on the battlefield, Russia is always seeking to modernize and update its tank fleet where it can.

The development and modernization of the T-90 has been a significant element of this since the collapse of the Soviet Union, up through the current day, despite the tank's troubled performance in Ukraine.

What is the T-90?
Russia presents the T-90 as one of its most advanced tanks in service today. Armed with an autoloader-serviced 125mm 2?46? main gun, the T-90 has a firing range of 5 kilometers in its basic form and is additionally equipped with KORD 12.7mm heavy and 7.62mm PTKM coaxial machine guns.

With a crew of three, the basic version of the T-90 is propelled by a 1000mm 12-cylinder engine, allowing it to reach speeds of 60 kilometers per hour on roads and 50 offroad.

The T-90 is capable of firing the advanced 9M119 Refleks anti-tank guided-missile system, which is designed to strike tanks with explosive reactive armor or helicopters.

In terms of protection of its own, the T-90 is protected by a combination of Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armor on the hull and turret as well as multi-layered steel armor.

At its root, the T-90 project began as a modernization of the T-72 in the twilight years of the Soviet Union in the 1980s. By 1989, the project had morphed into a distinct and independent endeavor, which led to limited serial production beginning in 1992.

As a result of bad press accrued by the T-72 and T-80BV in the first Gulf War and first Chechen War, Russia's arms industry felt pressured to heavily market the T-90 to export audiences to make up for such bad press.

Before long, the export of the T-90 — the T-90S — had attracted the attention of Russian military leaders, who initially ordered 200 examples of the tank under the designation T-90A after licensing a "knocked-down" version of the tank for production in India, where 1,000 were built. The T-90A received the moniker "Vladimir" after the death of the tank's main designer, Vladimir Ivanovich Potkin.

The newest version of the T-90 is the T-90M, which is touted as a new standard for Moscow's T-90s that it seeks to upgrade its fleet into. Its principal upgrades over the T-90A include the utilization of Russia's Relikt explosive reactive armor, and an improved version of the main gun which increases the range and accuracy of the T-90M compared to earlier versions.

Although the T-90M was first unveiled to the world in 2017, the exact number of T-90s in Russian service today is difficult to ascertain for certain.

While the Russian Armed Forces were slated to receive the final units of an order of 65 examples of the T-90M by the end of 2021, it does not appear that Russia possesses many additional examples of the modernized tank beyond this delivery, despite Russia's stated plans to use its T-90M fleet as a modern placeholder to tide itself over until the T-14 Armata is introduced (which is unlikely to happen anytime soon).

The T-90's performance in Ukraine

Despite its on-paper advantages and promotion in Russian media as being the best in the world, Russian T-90s have run into serious issues in Ukraine. Russia has reportedly lost 20 "Vladimirs" in Ukraine to date according to the open-source blog Oryx, as well as two T-90Ms.

In fact, Russia appears to have suffered its first T-90M loss shortly after the tanks began to appear in Ukraine in the spring.

While Russian media sources have pointed to the further delivery of T-90Ms to the Russian armed forces during the invasion as evidence of the resiliency of Russia's arms industry, the discovery of French optronic technology in a T-90 captured by Ukrainian forces raises questions about the durability of the supply chains which support T-90 production.

Although the T-90 has not lived up to much of its hype in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the ever-distant arrival of the T-14 Armata to active service likely means that Russia will have no choice but to maintain its fleet of T-90s for the foreseeable future.

Like a lot of former Soviet bloc countries, Ukrainian special forces' tactics, equipment, and even special operations forces are very Russian. This also applies to their names, with units like Spetsnaz and Alpha group existing in both Russia and Ukraine.

Ukraine has had a bit of a western influence as of late, and that's even beginning to show with its small arms.
