HSE warns budget is inadequate as children's hospital costs €1bn

The HSE said yesterday that the current capital budget is "entirely insufficient" to deal with the range of challenges it faces.

It comes as questions are asked about the €1bn cost of building the new national children's hospital in Dublin.

The HSE said it had made provision for €68m to spend this year on the hospital - due to be built over four years. It's entire capital budget is €384m.

Labour spokesperson on finance, and member of the Oireachtas Budgetary Oversight Committee, Joan Burton, has requested a special meeting to examine the estimated costs of the proposed children's hospital.

"I wrote to the Budgetary Oversight Committee Chair, John Paul Phelan, to request a special meeting," she said. "The original figure of €650m has risen by nearly €350m - close to €1bn."

A spokeswoman for the development board overseeing the hospital said the €650m figure was approved Exchequer funding in 2014 for its core construction along with the two satellite centres.

"This funding was approved following a cost estimate commenced in 2013 and completed in early 2014," she said.

"This was done by the National Paediatric Development Board. It based the cost on estimates for building the hospital at the Mater Hospital site. It will now be built at the campus of St James's Hospital.

"At the time construction inflation was at 3pc."

The spokeswoman said that an internationally recognised design group supported by an experienced project team were in place.

BAM Ireland, one of the State's largest building contractors, has been selected to build the hospital after an international procurement process was followed.

"Local and international companies participated in the tender process," the spokeswoman added. "More than 35 people participated in review panels for the tenders which covered thousands of line items.

"The tenders were reviewed against a number of technical and financial criteria and were independently peer reviewed by construction experts with extensive experience of projects of this size and complexity. It was a highly competitive process."

Het is inderdaad gebruikelijk dat bedrijven niet op geruchten reageren. Maar zég dat dan (BAM) of schíjf dat dan. Dus een van de twee schuttert.

Overigens is het beleid van Bam nu ook weer niet zo consistent dat ze alleen maar opdrachten boven de 50 milj melden. Er komen ook opdrachten van minder voor. En die zijn niet eens uitzonderlijk.

En toen Bam op 1 a 2 euro stond, kwam het bedrijf naar aanleiding van al die geruchten (denk aan onze Teun) ook met een geruststellende mededeling. Dus zo heilig is dat beleid ook weer niet.

Bam kan nu snel door de 4,65 weer en naar de 4,70 en 4,80..
Het groen en de futs vandaag groen...

Morgen weer rood...
dan weer groen..
Het is net een toverbal..

Mooie opdracht en de cijfers komen deze maand en het gaat een stuk beter in de bouw..

Kan een leuke boost geven dan ...
Er zit wat in het vat.

Dan de cijfer komen,,
Dikke order kan komen met een mooi PB.
En in de bouw gaat het beter.

En is het slecht nieuws allemaal slechte cijfers de order gaat niet door de bouw komt in verval..
Dan heb je vette pech.
deze keer maar eens door de 5 euro zou leuk zijn.
Binnen een paar weken komt alles uit het vat en dan zien we wel wat er in zit.
Flink schudden dat er niks achter blijft..

Zijn beleggers die hebben er zin in...
4,65 en op naar de 4,70..

Sydney Metro Stage 2 planning approvals granted

THE New South Wales (NSW) state government has announced that following the granting of final planning approvals, construction will begin this year on stage 2 of the Sydney Metro project from Chatswood through the Sydney central business district to Sydenham and on to Bankstown.

The approvals are for the Chatswood to Sydenham section of the project and comprise:

• delivery of 16.5kms of new metro rail between Chatswood and Sydenham, including 15.5kms of twin rail tunnelling under Sydney Harbour and the Sydney CBD, and

• seven new metro stations at Crows Nest, Victoria Cross (North Sydney), Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street, Central (new underground platforms), and Waterloo.

Construction sites will be established in central Sydney later this year, and by the end of 2018 the first of five tunnel boring machines will be in the ground.

Ultimately Sydney Metro will have capacity to offer a train every two minutes in each direction underground through Sydney with 31 metro stations from Rouse Hill to Bankstown covering a total distance of 66km.

The first stage from Rouse Hill in the north-west to Chatswood is currently under construction and due for completion by 2019 at a cost of $A 8.3bn ($US 6.13bn), while the estimated cost of stage 2 is between $A 11.5bn and $A 12.5bn.

NSW planning minister Mr Rob Stokes says the project will help prepare Sydney for the future.

“This project has been approved subject to some of the highest sustainability provisions in the world; among the conditions imposed with the approval is that greenhouse emissions by electricity consumed by the metro’s operation must be fully offset,” Stokes says.

Two consortia, the Ferrovial, Acciona, and BAM joint venture and the John Holland, CPB, and Ghella joint venture are competing to build the twin tunnels, with the contract expected to be awarded around the middle of this year.

The planning process for the conversion and upgrade of the existing Bankstown heavy rail line to metro standards will also begin in 2017.
