Hof VS blokkeert ’blijf in Mexico’-beleid van Trump

SAN FRANCISCO - Een Amerikaans gerechtshof heeft een streep gehaald door een belangrijke asielmaatregel van de regering van president Donald Trump. Die dwong veel migranten om in Mexico te wachten terwijl hun asielaanvraag werd behandeld. Dat kan maanden of zelfs jaren duren.

Sinds de invoering van dat zogenoemde ’blijf in Mexico’-beleid zijn bijna 60.000 asielzoekers teruggestuurd naar Mexico. Daar leven ze soms noodgedwongen in tentenkampen. Het federale hof van beroep in San Francisco oordeelde dat het beleid strijdig is met regels over migrantenrechten.

Hetzelfde hof verwierp vrijdag ook een andere asielmaatregel van de regering. Die maakte het migranten onmogelijk om asiel aan te vragen als ze illegaal de grens waren overgestoken, zonder zich te melden bij een officiële grensovergang.

Trump beschouwt het terugdringen van illegale migratie als een speerpunt. Hij beloofde tijdens zijn verkiezingscampagne in 2016 om een muur te bouwen aan de grens met Mexico en dat buurland te laten betalen voor de aanleg.

Het oordeel van het hof is een tegenvaller voor Trump, maar hoeft niet te betekenen dat zijn asielmaatregelen definitief van de baan zijn. Volgens waarnemers wordt de kwestie waarschijnlijk ook nog voorgelegd aan het hooggerechtshof.

First death from coronavirus in the United States confirmed in Washington state, officials say

A patient infected with the novel coronavirus in Washington state has died, a state health official said Saturday, marking the first death due to the virus in the United States.

The patient was a man in his 50s who had underlying health conditions, according to Dr. Jeffrey Duchin, health officer for Seattle and King County, Washington state. President Donald Trump and US officials previously said in a press briefing that the patient was a woman.
Earlier, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee referred to the patient as male.

"I want to assure that family they are on the hearts of every American," Vice President Mike Pence said.
There was no evidence the patient had close contact with an infected person or a relevant travel history that would have exposed the patient to the virus, Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said at the White House Saturday, suggesting the patient became ill through community spread.
Health officials previously said at least 4 US coronavirus patients had no travel history that would tie them to the virus.

President Donald Trump on Saturday attempted to reassure Americans that his administration is competently responding to the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic.

Trump said that a “wonderful woman” lost her life to the virus.

However, it appears that the victim was actually a man, according to local authorities.

Trump’s claim was also repeated by Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar.

The CDC (centers for Disease controls) has admitted giving the American people “erroneous” information about the crisis.

Trump directing his coronavirus task force to launch attacks on Democrats to avoid blame

According to a report from the Daily Beast, Donald Trump is directing members of his coronavirus task force to make sure they hammer at the Democrats when discussing progress the administration is making to combat the spread on the growing pandemic.

On Friday night, at a rally in South Carolina, Trump set the tone by pointedly blaming the Democrats and telling rallygoers, “The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. They don’t have any clue,” while also tying the growing health crisis to building his wall, by stating, “Border security is also health security.”

As the Beast reports, “According to three sources who have independently discussed the crisis with him in the last three weeks, Trump has appeared preoccupied with his theory that liberals and the press were attempting to use coronavirus to make him ‘look bad’ prior to the November election.”

Vorige maand gaf trump aan de 'self-reliance rule' aan te scherpen, zodat arme immigranten het land niet meer in kunnen komen. Ik laat even in het midden of dat goed of slecht is. (Mar aangezien de heer Cucinelli er blij van werd, kunt u zelf wel een conclusie trekken...)

Maar, deze regel zorgt voor veel onrust onder (armere) immigranten, omdat het gerucht gaat dat iedereen die aanspraak maakt op overheidsdiensten ter ondersteuning, op de lijst komt om het land uitgeschopt te worden. (niet geheel ondenkbeeldig, gezien de recente akties van de trump Stazis)

1 van die overheidsdiensten is Medicaid..Dus gaan armere immigranten niet meer naar de dokter. En al helemaal niet als ze hoesten en proesten...

Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar on Monday night announced that she would be leaving the race to endorse centrist Mr Biden.

Former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg and billionaire Tom Steyer ended their campaigns at the weekend, after a major win for former vice president Mr Biden in South Carolina.

Er blijven nog 4 kandidaten over

Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and Mike Bloomberg.

Morgen is Super Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the states of Alabama, American Samoa, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia will decide the fate of 1,357 delegates.

A winning nominee needs 1,991 delegates to take the nomination and so far only 4 per cent of the delegates have been chosen.

Mr Sanders leads the delegate count at the moment with 56, while Mr Biden is second with 48.

But with a growing divide between the leftist base of the Democratic Party and the moderate camp, different scenarios could be at play in the Super Tuesday primaries.
