Dinsdag postte de voormalige federale aanklager Glenn Kirschner een vernietigend commentaar waarin hij niet alleen de aangeklaagde medewerker van voormalig president Donald Trump, Tom Barrack, aan de kaak stelde, maar ook het rechtssysteem dat hem toestaat zijn proces af te wachten in een landhuis in Colorado, terwijl verdachten met een laag inkomen vanuit de gevangenis hun proces afwachten.

"Dus Tom Barrack, Donald Trump's goede persoonlijke vriend voor veertig jaar, zijn bondgenoot, zijn vertrouweling, de voorzitter van Donald Trump's inaugurele commissie, werd voorgeleid in de federale districtsrechtbank in Brooklyn, New York op een aanklacht die hem beschuldigt van zeven misdrijven," zei Kirschner. "Een van de belangrijkste dingen om te weten is dat als Tom Barrack deze misdaden heeft begaan, hij zijn land heeft verraden."

"Dus nadat Tom Barrack was voorgeleid op de aanklacht, werd hij opnieuw vrijgelaten door de rechter op 250 miljoen dollar borgtocht, wat slechts een klein deel van zijn nettowaarde vertegenwoordigt, miljardair die hij is," zei Kirschner. "Tom Barrack kan waarschijnlijk 250 miljoen vinden in zijn bankkussens. En de rechter liet hem vrij zodat hij kon gaan wonen in zijn $15 miljoen kostende villa in Aspen, Colorado."

"Weet je, mensen, als een jonge man de tas van een vrouw steelt, kan hij heel goed kijken naar voorhechtenis. Hij kan worden opgesloten in afwachting van zijn proces," vervolgde Kirschner. "Maar als je een miljardair bent die bevriend is met Donald Trump en aangeklaagd wordt voor misdaden die verraad zijn aan je land, dan moet je naar Aspen. Misschien vindt Tom Barrack dat lastig, want het is geen skiseizoen. De hele zaak doet me denken aan een zin van Bob Dylan, toen hij zei: "Steel een beetje en ze gooien je in de gevangenis; steel veel en ze maken je koning. Maar uiteindelijk zal er gerechtigheid komen voor Tom Barrack."

Nancy Pelosi is als voorzitter van het Huis verantwoordelijk voor de tragedie van 6 januari.

Nadat de video van haar toespraak viraal ging, kregen critici van de New Yorkse wetgever -- die haar leiderschapspositie bereikte nadat Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) uit de positie werd gezet vanwege kritiek op voormalig president Donald Trump -- een stortvloed van kritiek over zich heen vanwege een laatste wanhopige poging om het land te vergassen voordat de hoorzittingen begonnen.
