BAM Construction has won a € 10m contract to build Sheffield Hallam University’s new Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.

The Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) will form the centrepiece of Sheffield’s Olympic Legacy Park (OLP). It will act as the research hub for the National Centre for Sports & Exercise Medicine in Sheffield, a 2012 Olympic Legacy project. The facility will bring together clinical services and physical activity facilities to help people with a medical need to exercise more easily.

The government has committed € 16m to the project.

Anticipated construction start date is 19th December 2017 and completion date is in February 2019.

Designed by HLM Architects, the five-storey steel-frame building will have 3, 800 m2 of space for specialised laboratories and associated office space. There is also a motion analysis hall to the rear of the building, which is double height with a cross laminated timber frame. The façade is generally glazed and timber clad with a brick plinth and ground floor level.

The primary aim of the AWRC is to create innovations that will 'improve the health of the nation', tackling issues such as inactivity and obesity.

Beste Jvdpee, het bericht was bedoeld als aanvulling op het eerdere nieuwsbericht. Inderdaad de 7x 24 uurs-forumgangers hoef ik inderdaad niets te vertellen; eerder andersom. Je suggestie om de RvB van BAM te informeren, is niet aan mij besteed maar voel je vrij om het zelf te doen.

Cijferseizoen deze week voorzichtig van start.

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Amsterdamse beurs gaat maandag naar verwachting nipt hoger openen. Wall Street kwam vrijdagavond niet van zijn plaats, terwijl de Aziatische hoofdbeurzen vanochtend overwegend hoger noteren. Futures op de AEX index wezen ruim een half uur voor de beursgong op een winst van 0,1 procent. Ondanks een verlies van een half procent voor de index afgelopen vrijdag, steeg de hoofdgraadmeter van Beursplein 5 op weekbasis een half procent naar 539,90 punten. De AEX-herbelegginsindex, dat wil zeggen inclusief uitgekeerde en herbelegde dividenden, is dit jaar echter al weer circa 15 procent gestegen.

DEN HAAG (AFN) - Het nieuwe kabinet van VVD, CDA, D66 en ChristenUnie wil de dividendbelasting per 2019 afschaffen. Ingewijden bevestigen berichtgeving hierover van de NOS. De dividendbelasting - de belasting over het winstaandeel dat bedrijven uitkeren aan hun aandeelhouders - levert het kabinet jaarlijks zo'n 1,4 miljard euro op. Het afschaffen ervan maakt deel uit van een breder pakket van wijzigingen van de belastingen voor bedrijven. Al met al gaan de lasten iets omhoog. Om de afschaffing van de dividendbelasting te betalen worden andere zaken duurder. Ondernemers gaan meer betalen als ze vervuilen, een overmatige schuld aangaan en bepaalde belastingconstructies gebruiken. Het verdwijnen van de dividendbelasting maakt het voor buitenlandse bedrijven aantrekkelijker om zich in Nederland te vestigen. Voor Nederlandse bedrijven verdwijnt met de dividendbelasting veel administratief gedoe.

Ik las iets over 10 jaar in BAM zitten en daar niet blij van worden. Ik zit er minder lang in (aantal maanden) maar tot tevredenheid leidt het nog niet. Wel gemiddeld en daardoor nu 'slechts' 2 procent verlies. Dat is te doen, maar het blijft hopen op een leuke piek omhoog. Liefst al voor de kwartaalcijfers, want na die cijfers is het meestal geen feest meer.

Ach, dat kan nog natuurlijk. Er is nog een maand om iets te stijgen en elke stijging levert hier een glimlach op. Dus laat die stijging, al is het een beperkte maar komen. Ik verwacht gewoon niet dat BAM heel ver wegzakt op het huidige niveau. Daar is althans geen logisch argument voor te vinden (kijkend naar de k/w). .

Swimmers will be crowned victorious in front of 250 spectators when a € 29m leisure centre featuring an eight-lane swimming pool opens in early 2019.

Yet Adam Harding, right, regional director of BAM Construct, believes the real winners have already been crowned as his company starts work on the five acre site in Whitfield.

More than half the companies involved are expected to be from Kent.

They will all be part of the supply chain to the national construction contractor, which won the tender to build the project earlier this year.

On four Kent projects last year, the company made an average of 68% of its orders with firms in the county.

The company has spent nearly € 290m on developments in Kent since October 2011, of which about 50% has been spent with contractors and the supply chain here.

“I would put Kent at the top when it comes to supply chain,” said Mr Harding.

“Their ambition to do a good job makes them successful and makes us want to work with them time-and-time again.”

BAM Construct, which has its headquarters in Hertfordshire, has worked with more than 200 Kent firms on projects across the UK.

In Kent, it has enjoyed a surge in investment in education as one of the government’s approved contractors.

Kent County Council has awarded several contracts to build schools in recent years. It has been a useful fallback for the company as uncertainty grips the private sector.

Mr Harding said: “We like to try to have balance between public sector and private sector. You never know where the market is going. In recent times, we’ve seen a pullback in private sector investment with the uncertainty around Brexit. You’ve got to have a balance of public sector work to feed the business.”

Mr Harding started his career with BAM in 1994 and was a site manager and project manager before accepting his job as South East regional director.

In that time he has seen several major contractors go out of business – notably Cardy in Canterbury last year.

“This industry is quite a risky business and the margins people work towards are quite tight,” said Mr Harding.

“Most of the companies which have gone out of business in the past four or five years have been fantastic contractors but people have taken risks that they couldn’t cover and that’s a real shame...” - Adam Harding, BAM Construct

One of the reasons BAM is awarded major Kent contracts is its size.

Mr Harding said: “We class ourselves as regional – even though we are a national company – because we keep close to clients and local authorities.

“We are able to then call upon experts from other parts of the business.

“We have delivered a number of leisure centres in the rest of the UK and, when the Dover leisure centre project came along, I was able to call colleagues in the North East and cash in on their experience.”

Bij de smallcaps was Heijmans de sterkste daler met 2,6 procent. Schutte zag daar geen duidelijke aanleiding bij.

Zelf wil ik het positieve onderstrepen. Want wat ik zie zijn fantastische bedrijfswinsten, continue dalende rentes op spaarrekeningen maar ook het onbelast maken van dividend. Om die redenen zie ik in ieder geval het komende jaar met name particuliere beleggers massal instappen en zij zullen een ware beurshausse (voor de AEX > 600) veroorzaken. Wanneer de rente niet omhoog gebracht worden, voorzie ik een voortzetting van dat scenario ook in het 2e jaar.
