Floventis Energy, a joint venture between Cierco and SBM Offshore, has officially announced the commencement of public consultation for Llyr 1, a test and demonstration floating wind farm located in the Celtic Sea. Anticipated to provide sustainable energy for over 100,000 homes, Llyr 1 represents a crucial step towards establishing Wales as a global leader in floating offshore wind technology.
In the Celtic Sea, Llyr 1 will be situated with its closest point approximately 36 kilometres from the Welsh coastline, 55 km from Lundy Island, and 72 kilometres from the Devon coastline. The public consultation for Llyr 1 is scheduled to run from Monday, January 15, to Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Floventis Energy plans to submit an application for consent to construct and operate the offshore generating station under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989. Simultaneously, a Marine Licence will be applied for under Part 4 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. Pending necessary consents, construction is expected to commence in late 2026.
Olivier Marchand, Project Director for The Llyr project, expressed, "The Celtic Sea offers Wales the opportunity to become a global leader in floating offshore wind. Our pathfinder project will pave the way for the development, construction, installation, and operation of floating offshore wind."All feedback must be submitted by 23:59hrs on February 11, 2024.
