Het Duitse diagnosticabedrijf Oncgnostics gaat de technologie van MDxHealth gebruiken om testen te ontwikkelen die baarmoderhalskanker in een vroeg stadium kunnen detecteren.
Hoeveel het Belgische bedrijf MDxHealth MDXH -0,35% daarvoor ontvangt, is niet meegedeeld. ‘We gaan ervan uit dat de financiële voordelen op korte termijn beperkt zijn’, zegt Jan De Kerpel, biotechspecialist van KBC Securities. ‘Maar op termijn kan deze samenwerking een nieuwe, continue inkomstenstroom op gang brengen eens Oncgnostics zijn test op de markt lanceert.’
In het verleden licentieerde MDxHealth zijn technologie al uit aan het Amerikaanse Exact Sciences, dat de darmkankertest Cologuard met 'MDx inside' op de markt heeft gebracht. Sommige analisten voorspellen voor die test piekverkopen van 1 miljard dollar. Een klein deeltje van de jaarlijkse daarvan zal via royalties ('lage eencijferige') naar MDxHealth vloeien.
Maar MDxHealth wed op meerdere paarden. Enerzijds op samenwerkingen met andere farmabedrijven, en anderzijds baat het labo's uit in de VS waar het zelf ontwikkelde diagnosticatesten uitvoert. Het heeft bijvoorbeeld al ConfirmMDx op de markt, waarmee het prostaatkanker kan opsporen op basis van een bloedstaal. De verkopen van die testen stijgen maand na maand en is - net als Cologuard - een permanente bron van inkomsten geworden.
Het nieuws heeft vooralsnog geen impact op de waardering van het bedrijf, besluit De Kerpel. Hij behoudt zijn koopadvies met een koersdoel van 5 euro.
