China’s spot steel prices mostly fell on Monday August 19 due to a softening of the billet market.
In Beijing, grade III rebar was trading at 3,580-3,670 yuan ($581-595) per tonne, down 20-30 yuan ($3-5) per tonne from last Friday. In Shanghai, the same product traded 10 yuan ($2) per tonne lower at 3,510-3,700 yuan ($569-600) per tonne. Transactions in both Shanghai and Beijing were low over the weekend due to weakening billet prices, market participants said. China’s hot rolled coil export prices were unchanged on Monday August 19 as market participants sat on the sidelines, awaiting clearer direction.
