De Amerikaanse aandelenmarkt heeft in de afgelopen tien jaar een topprestatie geleverd, maar volgens de gerenommeerde zakenblad Barron's ligt de toekomst in Europa.
De Amerikaanse S&P 500-index heeft het afgelopen decennium bijna drie keer zoveel rendement opgeleverd als de Euro Stoxx 50. Als de dividenden niet worden meegeteld is dat zelfs zes keer zoveel.
Maar volgens Barron's en diverse zakenbanken zullen Europese aandelen de komende periode de meeste groei laten zien. De winsten van de bedrijven genoteerd aan de S&P 500 zullen dit jaar naar verwachting met 25% stijgen ten opzichte van vorig jaar, en voor de Euro Stoxx 50 is de prognose een 33% winstgroei. De voorwaartse koers-winstverhouding voor de S&P 500 is inmiddels opgelopen tot 19,4 voor volgend jaar, vergeleken met 16,6 voor de Euro Stoxx 50.
De Amerikaanse zakenbank JPMorgan volgt mandjes van aandelen die nauw verbonden zijn met de economische heropleving in verschillende regio's. Het mandje van de VS staat weer op het niveau van voor de coronacrisis, terwijl het mandje van Europa nog steeds ongeveer 20% lager staat dan voor de pandemie.
Tijd om te shinen
Met andere woorden, Europese aandelen zijn goedkoper dan Amerikaanse. JPMorgan denkt dat Europese aandelen dit jaar beter zullen presteren dan Amerikaanse. Dat is opmerkelijk, want deze zakenbank voorspelde jarenlang het tegenovergestelde.
De Zwitserse bank UBS verwacht dat de VS en Europa dit jaar dicht bij elkaar zullen komen qua economische groei, en dat Europa volgend jaar een voorsprong zal nemen.
Zelfs als we rekening houden met het feit dat de VS een snellere start heeft gemaakt met vaccineren, dan nog is Europa volgens Barron’s de moeite waard om in te beleggen.
Voor indexbeleggers zijn er tal van actief beheerde beleggingsfondsen en indexfondsen, zoals SPDR Euro Stoxx 50 (ticker: FEZ). Maar u kunt natuurlijk ook gaan voor individuele aandelen.
UBS tipt ING en Shell
UBS heeft onlangs een lijstje gepubliceerd van favoriete aandelen. De zakenbank heeft onder andere hoge verwachtingen van ING Groep en oliereus Shell. ING kan volgens UBS profiteren van hogere rentetarieven, terwijl de bank becijferde dat Shell break-even draait bij een olieprijs van 35 dollar per vat. Die is nu 62 dollar.
Het aandeel ING heeft een dividendrendement van 5,6%, maar de totale uitbetaling zou de komende jaren kunnen oplopen tot 10% à 15%, inclusief speciale dividenden en de inkoop van eigen aandelen, voorspelde UBS.
... en Alstom
Verder ziet UBS een mooie toekomst voor onder andere de Franse fabrikant van spoorwegmaterieel Alstom, die onlangs zijn rivaal Bombardier Transportation heeft gekocht, waardoor het de op een na grootste spoorwegspeler ter wereld is geworden.
De orders van Alstom zijn met 10% per jaar gestegen, terwijl het bedrijf een gunstige blootstelling heeft aan de infrastructuurprojecten die in de VS en Europa worden overwogen. De aandelen worden verhandeld tegen 19 keer de verwachte winst.
Deutsche Telekom en IAG
Ook Deutsche Telekom heeft de aandacht van UBS. Deze Duitse telecomreus, die een marktwaarde heeft van 79 miljard euro, heeft onder meer een groot belang in T-Mobile US, dat een flinke voorsprong heeft op zijn Amerikaanse rivalen in de uitrol van 5G-telecommunicatie.
Verder zal Deutsche Telekom de komende tien jaar glasvezelverbindingen installeren in alle Duitse huishoudens, waardoor het zijn prijzen zal kunnen verhogen.
Voor de avontuurlijke beleggers is er International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), dat in 2011 is ontstaan uit een fusie tussen British Airways en het Spaanse Iberia, en een aankoop in 2015 van het Ierse Aer Lingus.
IAG heeft een sterke marktpositie in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, dat net als de VS een voorsprong heeft op Europa met de uitrol van de vaccins, en UBS verwacht dat het bedrijf na de zomer weer winst zal gaan maken.
