TomTom expanding the relationship with VW

- Nice multi-year extension of its contract with VM
TT will deliver the navigation software and the traffic information for CARIAD globally ( ex - China)
CARIAD is the software company of the VW Group that will develop the infotainment cockpit for the entire group
Financial details are not disclosed but given the volume increase and product extension we expect that this is a significant step-up
Additionally we see this as a sign of trust by one of the key car producers globally

this is a significant extension and implies that volumes will go up significantly , the product range is extended with navigation software
... but not full stack either, TT will not provide its entire product portfolio as the deal excludes
1) the map which is still going to be delivered by HERE
2) cockpit software as this will be developed by CARIAD itself

Ja tomtom kan navigeren op een here map. En ook bij Indigo kan dat. Ik heb hier een bericht van IR gepost dat dit ook specifiek kan. En ook dat je elementen van Indigo kunt gebruiken en dat niet integraal hoeft te doen.

VW lijkt elementen van Indigo te gebruiken, maar roept nog “Cariad doet zelf de UX”. Die UX is dramatisch, de grootste klacht in de ID series. maar Cariad noemt zich een expert op UX gebied ook in het persbericht.

Er is veel politiek binnen VW gaande (zie ook bemoeienissen Diess met Cariad) en ik denk ook dat Cariad onzeker is over zichzelf en haar toekomst. Desalniettemin is de rol die TT heeft bemachtigd langetermijn nog veel mooier dan alleen wat SD kaarten leveren en de cockpit software.
