Rhode Island’s Southern Sky Renewable Energy commissions 2.6-MW landfill solar array

Southern Sky Renewable Energy RI was joined by Rhode Island state Governor Gina Raimondo, North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi, Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, business leaders and elected officials to mark the completion of a 2.6 MW solar array on Smithfield Road. The former municipal landfill site is now producing clean energy for the town of North Providence, offsetting their energy costs. In addition to energy savings, the town will receive rent payments for the use of the land and tax payments for real and tangible property. The town will receive a financial benefit of USD 5.1 million over the life of the project.

Governor Raimondo said that “Renewable energy is the future of energy in Rhode Island, and this new solar array is a perfect example of our progress. The incredible transformation of this former landfill into a clean energy-producing solar array is not only good for the planet, but for our economy as well. We’re making it easier for businesses and homeowners alike to invest in solar and are now offering financial incentives to convert brownfields into renewable energy projects. Thanks to our efforts, I’m confident there will be many ribbon cuttings like this one in the years to come.”

Titan Solar Power Locks in Silfab Solar for High Efficiency Modules

Silfab Solar, North America’s leading PV module manufacturer announced a new partnership with PM&M Electric, Inc doing business as Titan Solar Power, the nation’s 2018 top solar rooftop contractor (Solar Power World) to deliver some of the country’s most reliable and highest-efficiency solar panels on the market. Titan Solar’s initial commitment includes the Silfab 300w and 320w modules, the most sought-after panels for residential installations, and are expected to represent a good portion of Titan’s more than 80-megawatt annual portfolio. French groups Engie and Casino set up solar power joint venture

Reuters reported that French utility Engie and supermarket retailer Casino launched a new solar power joint venture, with France looking to expand its capacity in the fast-growing area of renewable energy. Engie and Casino said they would invest about 100 million euros (USD 115.60 million) per year in the new solar joint venture.

France wants to develop more wind, solar and other low-carbon energy sources to cut its dependence on nuclear energy power, which currently counts for over 75 percent of its needs.

Government data last month showed that French Ecology Minister Francois de Rugy had approved 392 rooftop solar power projects with a total capacity of 230 megawatts (MW) under a plan launched in 2016 to develop 1,450 MW of solar capacity within three years.

French solar energy firm Neoen prices IPO at 16.5 euros/share

Reuters reported that French solar energy firm Neoen had priced its IPO at 16.5 euros per share, towards the bottom end of the 16-19 euro indicated range. Neoen, France's largest independent renewable energy firm, is raising 450 million euros of new capital while two shareholders will sell existing shares worth 190 million euros, for a total offer of 640 million euros worth of shares.

Neoen said on Oct. 5 the entire public offering had been subscribed.

The IPO ran Oct. 4-15 and included a greenshoe option for shareholders including Impala and Bpifrance that could boost the total offer to 711.5 million euros.

Solar project in Trichy gets approvals under smart cities mission

Economic Times reported that Trichy Corporation has managed to obtain both administrative and technical approvals for establishing a 2.5 megawatt solar park under smart cities mission to generate electricity from sunlight. In a list of more than 18 proposals made by Trichy Corporation, the civic body had also envisaged a plan to establish a solar power park. Identifying Panchapur as apt location, the civic body earlier submitted a proposal with a high power committee comprising senior bureaucrats from the state government.

The proposal estimated at INR 13 crore will establish 2.5 MW solar powerplant sprawling for 15 acres in Panchapur on Trichy-Madurai NH. Mr N Ravichandran, Commissioner, Trichy Corporation said that “We have obtained required approvals for implementing the project under smart cities mission. Soon a tender inviting eligible contractor will be floated within a month to issue a work order.”

The civic body has planned to join hands with Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation for supplying the electricity generated through the solar park to a public grid. In return, Trichy Corporation will be equally compensated while paying their electricity bill charged by electricity board for operation and maintenance works.

JinkoSolar Supplies Huaneng with 100 MW of Mono Perc Solar Panels

JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd one of the world's largest solar module manufacturers, announced that it has supplied 100-megawatts of its Mono Perc solar panels JKM295M-60&JKM290M-60 to Huaneng Group for installation at the Xintai coal mining subsidence, Shandong province, China. The project included in China Top Runner Program 2016, adopted an innovative solar + agriculture application design, arranging solar panels to be mounted on greenhouse rooftops These mono perc cells are built on a solid foundation, making them efficiently resistant to micro cracking, corrosion and stresses from temperature variation. With an efficiency of 17.8 percent, the JKM295-60 mono perc panels deliver more power in the same amount of space and maximize system output with fewer panels installed. JinkoSolar has also optimized the cell processing sequence to address the potential problem of LeTID and LID.

Mr Yongfeng Pei, the project manager of China Huaneng Group said that "The proven efficiency and reliability of the mono perc modules from JinkoSolar will enable us to build a power plant that will benefit the community of Xintai.

Mr Gener Miao, Sales & Marketing VP of JinkoSolar said that "We are pleased that Huaneng chose JinkoSolar’s mono perc solution for this 100MW top runner program project in Xintai. Canadian Solar Partners with Biosar to build a 256 MWp of Solar Project

Canadian Solar Inc one of the world's largest solar power companies and Biosar Australia, a leading solar EPC provider, today announced they will jointly provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction ("EPC") services to a 256 MWp solar power project in Australia for Total Eren, a leading French Independent Power Producer. The project, Kiamal Solar Farm, is located in Northwest Victoria and has secured several Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with energy retailers such as Flow Power and Alinta Energy and a 20-year PPA with Mars Australia. Construction is planned to start in October 2018 and it is expected to reach commercial operation by mid-2019. Over 720,000 of Canadian Solar's 1500V high efficiency KuMax modules (CS3U-P) will be installed on single-axis solar tracking systems. When completed, it is expected to be the single largest solar power plant in Victoria, Australia, and will produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 133,500 Victorian homes and displacing more than 610,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

GroenLinks stelt Kamervragen over Woningwet die zonnepanelen blokkeert

GroenLinks-Kamerleden Tom van der Lee en Paul Smeulders hebben Kamervragen gesteld over de Woningwet die de uitrol van zonnepanelen bij woningcorporaties zou blokkeren.

Van der Lee en Smeulders hebben de vragen gesteld aan minister Wiebes van Economische Zaken en Klimaat en minister Ollongren van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties. Autoriteit woningcorporaties verbood eerder deze maand SDE+-subsidie voor woningcorporatie Dunavie.

De Kamerleden willen weten of het klopt dat het binnen de regels van de Woningwet niet mogelijk is voor een woningcorporatie om een SDE+ subsidie bij de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO.nl) aan te vragen voor zonnepanelen omdat de energie niet naar de corporatie of de huurders zou gaan, maar naar het energiebedrijf. Ze verzoeken de ministers het probleem verder te onderzoeken en artikel 45(2), sub c van de Woningwet aan te passen zodat het voor woningcorporaties wel mogelijk wordt om SDE+-subsidie aan te vragen.

Universiteit Utrecht: energieproductie zonnepanelen in 2018 bovengemiddeld

Op verzoek van de NOS hebben de Universiteit Utrecht en Milieu Centraal berekend dat individuele zonnepanelen in 2018 nu al meer zonnestroom hebben geproduceerd dan heel vorig jaar.

De gemiddelde opbrengst van 2018 ligt dus hoger dan het gemiddelde van de afgelopen jaren. En nog hoger vergeleken met het langjarig gemiddelde van 1981 tot 2010. Professor Wim Sinke van de Universiteit van Amsterdam stelt het volgende over de meeropbrengst: ‘We hebben in een aantal maanden van dit jaar aanzienlijk meer zonlicht gehad dan andere jaren. De winst die je krijgt door dat extra zonlicht, is veel hoger dan het negatieve effect van de warmte.’

Zij bieden hun beste prijs voor een compleet zonnepanelensysteem. De leverancier met het scherpste bod wint en stuurt iedere deelnemer via Vereniging Eigen Huis een vrijblijvend aanbod op maat. Dit aanbod is inclusief installatie, monitoring en garanties. De deelnemer beslist of hij op het aanbod in gaat.

Vlaanderen geeft eerste investeringssubsidie voor drijvende zonnepanelen af

Tommelein: ‘Als overheid steunen wij nieuwe technologieën tot ze marktrijp zijn. Dit project met drijvende zonnepanelen combineert een aantal vernieuwingen die wij graag uitgetest zien. We verwachten een hoger rendement van drijvende zonnepanelen omdat ze kunnen meedraaien met de zon en omdat ze langs beide zijden zonnecellen hebben.’

Floating PV zal 5 hectare drijvende zonnepanelen bouwen op de plassen van het zandontginningsbedrijf Sibelco in Dessel. Het gaat om zonnepanelen die verschillende technieken integreren: zonnetracking waardoor de panelen meedraaien met de zon, een zich aanpassende hellingshoek, dubbelzijdige zonnepanelen en actieve koeling. De graad van innovatie is bepalend voor de subsidie vanuit een speciaal fonds voor innovatieve hernieuwbare-energieprojecten waarbinnen 6 miljoen euro beschikbaar is gesteld. De investeringssubsidie voor dit project bedraagt 25 procent van de in aanmerking komende kosten. Concreet gaat het om maximaal 2.046.452 euro.

Groenleven krijgt vergunning voor eerste zonnepark uit zonneakkerpoule

De gemeente Borger-Odoorn heeft een vergunning verleend voor het realiseren van zonnepark Exloo. Het zonnepark komt voort uit een zonneakkerpoule die een groep boeren met GroenLeven heeft opgericht.

Het park, dat voor een groot deel gerealiseerd wordt op oxiderende veengrond, levert als het gereed is genoeg stroom voor zo’n 14.500 huishoudens. Begin dit jaar introduceerde GroenLeven de zonneakkerpoule. Boeren brengen kansrijke grond voor zonneparken in. Gezamenlijk kan er daarmee eenvoudiger worden ingespeeld op de wensen van de gemeente, aangezien de boeren door het hele gebied percelen hebben liggen. Door deze als een poule aan te bieden, kan de gemeente kiezen op welke percelen zij het liefst een zonneakker wil realiseren.

De grondeigenaar waar daadwerkelijk een zonnepark wordt gebouwd, krijgt een vergoeding. De eigenaren van de overige gronden binnen de poule, waar geen zonnepark verschijnt, zijn altijd verzekerd van een bijdrage voor hun deelname in de poule, in de vorm van een optievergoeding.

De zonneakkerpoule in Exloo is de eerste zonneakkerpoule die GroenLeven samen met boeren heeft opgezet en is met de toekenning van de gemeente dus direct een succes. In Exloo werd er door boeren een aanzienlijke hoeveelheid beschikbare locaties in de poule gebracht. De gemeente heeft hieruit de keuze gemaakt voor de meest geschikte locatie voor het zonnepark.

Renewable Energy Systems creates 100+ jobs in Nevada

Solar Power World Online reported that local business and government leaders gathered on October 16 to celebrate the creation of over 100 jobs for local Nevada residents. Employees of RES (Renewable Energy Systems) were recognized for construction efforts on the first phase of Northern Nevada’s largest solar project located at 21905 Reno Technology Parkway East in the City of Reno. Once fully operational, the Turquoise Solar project will generate 60 MW of solar energy.

RES partnered with Empower America and Eastridge Workforce Solutions to deliver a workforce comprised of 80% Nevada residents and is committed to hiring veterans first, with up to 20% veterans. Construction on the first phase of the Turquoise Solar project began in July 2018 and is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2019. Phase I of the project will generate 10 MW of power and Phase II will bring the total energy output to 60 MW. That’s enough energy to power nearly 10,000 homes annually.

Mr Tim Jordan, RES vice president of solar construction said that “RES strives to hire local labor for all our renewable energy projects. We are pleased to bring solar energy to the great state of Nevada and have completed over 972 MW of solar projects globally.”

Mr Dion Trieb, vice president at Eastridge Workforce Solutions said that “Eastridge Workforce Solutions takes pride in providing good jobs to the great people in the Reno/Sparks Area. Partnering with an innovative company like RES has been highly beneficial for our 100+ employees working on the Turquoise Solar Project.”

RV switches on 138-MW PV plant in India

Renewables Now reported that Spain-based Fotowatio Renewable Ventures announced the inauguration of a 138-MW DC solar plant in India. The photovoltaic (PV) plant is comprised of two 100-hectare (247 acres) facilities located within the Ananthapuramu Solar Park in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first large-scale PV facility the company has developed in India.

The plant is expected to produce enough power to meet the annual demand of approximately 35,000 local homes, while offsetting around 160,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

The company was awarded the project in a reverse auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in 2016. The tender was aimed at helping India meet its renewable targets of 100 GW of solar capacity installed in the country by 2022, FRV noted.

Enel begins work on 475 MW solar plant in Brazil

PV Magazine reported that Brazilian subsidiary of Italy’s Enel has announced the start of the construction of the 475 MW São Gonçalo solar park in São Gonçalo do Gurguéia, in the state of Piauí, in northeastern Brazil. The São Gonçalo project, which is expected to start operating in 2020, is the largest photovoltaic installation currently under construction in South America. The Enel Group will invest around 1,400 million Brazilian BRL (about USD 390 million) in its construction.

Of the 475 MW of installed capacity in São Gonçalo, 388 MW were awarded to the Enel Group in Brazil’s A-4 auction held in December 2017 and are backed by a 20-year PPA with a group of distribution companies that operate in Brazil’s regulated market. The remaining 87 MW is expected to generate energy for the free market.

Once fully operational, the plant will generate more than 1,200 GWh per year and will prevent the emission of more than 600,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

In 2015, the Italian company Alba Energia also presented to the Government of Piauí its plans to carry out a 420 MW solar project in Sao Joao do Piauí. At the time, it was estimated that the project would involve an investment of 2 billion BRL (approximately $656 million). In the same year, there was also an announcement that Enel planned to invest in the state, but these investments were not completed until the start of the 292 MW Nova Olinda plant was announced at the end of 2017.

In Brazil, the Enel Group, through its subsidiaries EGPB and Enel Brasil, has a currentyl an operational PV capacity of 820 MW. In June, it also acquired 73% of Eletropaulo, the largest distributor in the country.

New Taipower solar power plant starts operation

Taiwan Power Co began operation of a new solar power plant created through a NT$6.2 billion (US$200.52 million) investment and the state-owned utility’s biggest solar project so far as it continues efforts to increase the amount of electricity generated from alternative energy sources. The plant is being built on a 140 hectare plot in Changhua County, on which Taipower originally planned to construct a coal power plant. The utility halted the project due to concern over carbon emissions. The plant began generating power, making 14 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity available to the power grid, Taipower said in a statement, adding that the plant would have a total generating capacity of 100MW a year.

Taipower said it plans to complete construction of the plant in February next year, after which the plant would generate 130 million units of electricity a year to power more than 30,000 households.

The utility said it is working on two additional solar power projects to accelerate its shift away from coaled-fired energy, with plans to generate 11.3MW a year by mounting solar panels on rooftops in Changhua and 150MW a year by constructing a ground-mounted solar panel farm in Tainan.

ReNew Power wins 3 Mw floating solar PV project at Visakhapatnam

Renewable energy company ReNew Power announced it has won a tender for developing a 3-Megawatt (Mw) floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project to be set up in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This would be among the largest floating solar PV projects in India and is estimated to generate around 4.2 million units of power annually, offsetting over 3,960 tonne of carbon emissions every year.

Mr Prabhat Kumar Mishra, head - distributed solar & offtake, ReNew Power said that “Floating solar is an emerging technology trend with huge potential and we are proud to be associated with this project at the Meghadrigedda reservoir, Visakhapatnam. We believe floating solar power plants can play a critical role in a country like India which has abundant water bodies.”

The company said it had won the project after a bidding process conducted by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). The project would be financed by GVMC through a grant received from the Asian Development Bank under their Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund.

Mr Mishra said that multiple factors including higher efficiency and lower installation time have contributed to floating solar gaining momentum, with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) inviting an Expression of Interest to generate 10,000 Mw through this channel.

Industry estimates suggest floating solar panels can generate up to 300 Gigawatt of power if only 10-15 per cent of India’s water resources are utilised for the purpose.

Wiebes herhaalt: ‘Vergroten van netcapaciteit voor zonne-energie kost tijd’

Het vergroten van netcapaciteit voor zonne-energie kost tijd. Dit meldt minister Wiebes van Economische Zaken en Klimaat vanwege problemen die er zijn bij netbeheerders om zonneparken tijdig aan te sluiten.

GroenLinks-kamerlid Tom van der Lee stelde eind september vragen naar aanleiding van een krantenartikel van het NRC over de capaciteitsproblemen bij de netbeheerders. Eerder dit jaar stelde Wiebes naar aanleiding van Kamervragen van PvdA’er William Moorlag dat aan de netbeheerders en de regio’s is om te zorgen dat er fysiek zonneparken gebouwd en aangesloten kunnen worden. Die vragen ontstonden naar aanleiding van berichtgeving van netbeheerders TenneT en Enexis die maatregelen aankondigden om meer capaciteit voor zonneparken in de regio’s Zuid-Groningen en Noord-Drenthe te realiseren.

Naar aanleiding van de vragen van Van der Lee meldt Wiebes het volgende: ‘Het is mij bekend dat het snel groeiende aanbod van zonne-energie ervoor zorgt dat de netcapaciteit in bepaalde gebieden oploopt tegen zijn grenzen. Het is positief voor de energietransitie dat de mogelijkheden voor verduurzaming met behulp van zonne-energie snel toenemen. Netbeheerders hebben de wettelijke taak om deze toename te faciliteren. Zoals ik eerder heb aangegeven in antwoorden op schriftelijke vragen van het lid Moorlag, kost het vergroten van de netcapaciteit echter tijd, omdat ruimte gevonden moet worden voor stations en voor nieuwe verbindingen met bijbehorende ruimtelijke vergunningenprocedures. Om te voorkomen dat op de korte termijn netcapaciteit een probleem vormt voor de aansluiting van zonneparken zoeken betrokken overheden, netbeheerders en initiatiefnemers daarom in onderling overleg naar praktische oplossingen.’

Wiebes stelt verder dat de problematiek niet door slechts een partij is op te lossen. ‘Of dat nu de overheid is of de netbeheerder of de initiatiefnemer van een duurzaam energieproject. Het streven is om tijdig en kostenefficiënt de benodigde netcapaciteit te realiseren voor duurzaam opgewekte elektriciteit op een uit oogpunt van ruimtelijke ordening gepaste locatie die kan rekenen op zoveel mogelijk draagvlak bij omwonenden. Om hiertoe te komen is een integrale, op samenwerking gebaseerde aanpak nodig waarin alle betrokken partijen aan tafel zitten en belangen goed worden gewogen.’

NaGa Solar plaatst zonnepanelen op stadion voetbalclub MVV

NaGa Solar gaat zonnepanelen plaatsen op het dak van het stadion van MVV Maastricht. Het pv-systeem wordt speciaal voor de supporters en partners van de voetbalclub geplaatst.

MVV Maastricht is volgens de betrokken partijen de eerste club in (Zuid-)Nederland waar supporters een zonnepaneel kunnen adopteren op het dak van het stadion van hun club en daarmee zelf energievoordeel genereren.

De zonnepanelen van het project Stralend MVV zullen begin 2019 geplaatst worden. Het geweldige initiatief wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt dankzij de achterburen NaGa Solar en de Gemeente Maastricht. Personen die woonachtig zijn in de omgeving van het stadion krijgen de kans om te investeren in de duurzame energie van Stralend MVV. Zij kunnen een zonnepaneel adopteren.

Henny Pelsers, chief executive officer van NaGa Solar: ‘Als achterbuur en partner van MVV was het voor ons een logische stap een duurzaam initiatief te starten in samenwerking met de club. Dit bracht de perfecte mogelijkheid een duurzaam zonne-energieproject te ontwikkelen in onze thuishaven. Maastricht is ook thuis voor de fanatieke MVV supporter, daarom hebben wij een coöperatie gerealiseerd die het voor supporters en partners mogelijk maakt een aandeel te hebben in het opwekken van groene energie in de gemeente.’

Provincie Brabant: ‘Substantieel deel logistieke daken en kavels geschikt voor zonnepanelen’

Het provinciebestuur van Noord-Brabant meldt op basis van onderzoek dat een substantieel deel van de logistieke daken en kavels in de provincie geschikt is voor de uitrol van zonne-energie.

Uit onderzoek van Gedeputeerde Staten blijkt dat het stimuleren van zonne-energie op daken van logistieke bedrijven kansrijk is. Het provinciebestuur heeft dit onderzoek uitgevoerd naar aanleiding van een motie van Provinciale Staten.
Uitkomst van het onderzoek is dat een substantieel deel van de huidige 1.000 hectare aan logistieke daken en 670 hectare kavels voor nieuwe logistieke bedrijven kan voor zonne-energie gebruikt worden. Het onderzoek heeft ook belemmeringen voor het realiseren van zonne-energie in beeld gebracht en hoe diverse partijen kunnen samenwerken om die belemmeringen weg te nemen.
