Canadian Solar bags 1.2-GW module order from Lightsource BP

Lightsource BP has ordered 1.2 GW of Canadian Solar modules for unspecified photovoltaic projects in the US and Australia. The two companies have signed a multi-year supply agreement. The order calls for the delivery of bifacial polycrystalline PERC modules, of the BiHiKu (CS3W-PB-AG) type, which the manufacturer says are capable of enhancing the power production when installed in a limited area and “dramatically” cut the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of the solar plant. The high-power HiKu (CS3W-P) modules are also part of the deal.

The names and exact location of Lightsource BP’s projects were not provided in the press release. Financial details about the equipment order were also kept under wraps.

Cubico Acquires a 50 MW Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Spain

Cubico Sustainable Investments announced the acquisition of the Arenales Solar PS S.L owned by a 50 MW solar thermal operating plant, from the Paneuropean Infrastructure Fund managed by DWS. The Arenales project is located in Morón de la Frontera, Seville, and came into operation in 2008. The plant is designed to generate 148 GWh of electricity annually through a solar field of parabolic trough collectors, with an approximate solar opening surface 510,020 square meters and a thermal storage system with molten salts for an autonomy of seven hours.

The Spanish OHL Industrial was responsible for its construction. As a result of the acquisition, Cubico’s portfolio in the Iberian Peninsula now includes eight assets in Spain and Portugal with a total capacity of 279 MW, including photovoltaic, solar thermal and wind energy technologies.

India Removes 20% Customs Duty on Import of Solar Cells and Panels

Indian government announced removal of 20 per cent import duty on solar cells and panels in the Budget, with immediate effect. According to the Budget documents, the customs duty on solar cells and solar cells assembled in modules or made up into panels was reduced from 20 per cent to zero per cent. This assumes significance in view of India's ambitious target of adding 100 gigawatt of solar energy by 2022. India has already achieved installation of 34 GW of solar energy in the country.

Earlier in July 2018, the government had imposed 25 per cent safeguard on solar cells imports from China and Malaysia for two years to protect domestic players from steep rise in the inbound shipments of the product. The government had imposed 25 per cent safeguard duty for the period from July 30, 2018, to July 29, 2019. This was to gradually come down to 20 per cent during the period between July 30, 2019, and January 29, 2020, and 15 per cent during the January 30, 2020-July 29, 2020, period.

Rio Tinto to build Solar Plant in Western Australia to Power Iron Ore Mine

Rio Tinto has approved a AUD 98 million (100 per cent basis) investment in a new solar plant at the Koodaideri mine in the Pilbara, Australia, as well as a lithium-ion battery energy storage system to help power its entire Pilbara power network. The 34 megawatt solar photovoltaic plant is expected to supply all of Koodaideri’s electricity demand during peak solar power generation times and approximately 65 per cent of the mine’s average electricity demand. The plant, Rio Tinto’s first company-owned solar facility, will consist of an estimated 100,000 panels, covering an area of 105 hectares. Construction is expected to begin later this year, subject to government approvals, and is due to be completed in 2021.

Complementing it will be a new 12MWh battery energy storage system in Tom Price that will provide spinning reserve generating capacity to support a stable and reliable network.

The solar plant and battery are estimated to lower annual carbon dioxide emissions by about 90,000 tonnes compared to conventional gas powered generation. This is the equivalent of taking about 28,000 cars off the road.

Koodaideri, 100 per cent owned by Rio Tinto, is located approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Rio Tinto's Yandicoogina mine site, and about 110 kilometres from the town of Newman.

Sembcorp to Build 8.2 MW Solar Power System at Singapore Airlines and SIA Engineering

Singapore Airlines and SIA Engineering Company have signed a power purchase agreement with Sembcorp Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, to install and operate rooftop solar panels on their premises.. The solar panels will help to power onsite operations at various locations, with surplus power generated channelled to Singapore and Changi Airport Group’s electrical grids. This arrangement reinforces the SIA Group’s commitment towards renewable energy sources and more sustainable operations. Under the agreement, Sembcorp Solar will install, own and operate over 20,000 solar panels. The panels will be installed at SIA’s Airline House, SIA Training Centre, TechSQ, five of SIAEC’s hangars and its Engine Test Facility. With a total capacity of 8.2 megawatt-peak (MWp), this will be the largest combined solar-power energy project for the aviation industry in Singapore.

Upon completion in June 2020, the project is expected to produce over 10,200 megawatt hours of power annually. This is enough renewable energy to power more than 2,290 four-room HDB flats for a year. It will also help offset over 4.3 million kilogrammes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, equivalent to taking
approximately 930 cars off the road or planting over 52,000 trees.

Orange has chosen Iberdrola for Green Energy

Iberdrola and Orange have decided to ally themselves in terms of sustainability, with a long-term power purchase agreement, which will allow the telecommunications operator to continue with its commitment to consuming emissions-free energy in this country, which it already demonstrates as it uses energy from 100% renewable sources at all its locations. The terms of the agreement reached between the two companies establish that Iberdrola will provide green energy to the 9,000 supply points in Orange's own network in Spain, for a period of 12 years. The contract is now in place and half of the consumption - 200 GWh/year - to be supplied under the PPA formula will be associated with a new-build renewable asset, the Ceclavín photovoltaic project, which Iberdrola will develop in Extremadura during this year.

The plant will have an installed capacity of 328 MW and be located in the municipalities of Ceclavín and Alcántara, in the province of Cáceres, and will be Iberdrola's third photovoltaic project in the region. It will become operational in 2020 and avoid the emission of 110,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Ceclavín forms part of Iberdrola's strategy to invest in clean power generation projects in Spain - where it plans to install 3,000 MW by 2022 - and its commitment to using bilateral agreements with big customers who are committed to sustainable consumption as a way to promote the supply of energy at affordable, stable prices.

Enel X and Cremonini Group for Sustainable Energy Solutions

Environmental sustainability and consumption optimization are the objectives shared by Enel X and the Cremonini Group, active in the food sector, which has chosen the innovative and sustainable solutions of the Enel Group's business line to power with renewable sources the most important Italian production sites of Inalca, the leading subsidiary company in the meat processing and distribution abroad of food products. Specifically, Enel X will build photovoltaic systems in eight of the company's industrial plants for a total capacity of over 4 MW, which will allow annual savings of about 1,850,000 kg of CO2. Currently Inalca generates 100% of the energy necessary for the operation of its sites and over 40% of this comes from renewable sources. Thanks to the new plants, the company will increase this share significantly.

Enel X, already partner of Chef Express in the field of energy efficiency through the use of digital platforms, thanks to this agreement strengthens the collaboration with the Cremonini Group company that manages all the catering activities, installing two photovoltaic systems of 50 kW each in two large motorway service areas in the provinces of Udine and Venice.
n addition to photovoltaic plants, Enel X will offer the Cremonini Group maintenance and energy management services on the complete portfolio of sites, thanks to the EMS (Energy Management System) monitoring platform. The agreement also provides for the analysis of the degree of circularity of the Group, with particular attention to the energy sector, aimed at identifying a roadmap of interventions in line with the objectives of carbon neutrality and environmental sustainability.

Vattenfall and Deutsche Telekom Sign Solar Power Agreement

Vattenfall and the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Power & Air Solutions have signed an energy supply contract based on solar power with a term of ten years. The renewable electricity comes from a new solar park, which will be built by the customer in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in mid-2021. The plant will have an installed capacity of 60 megawatts. Vattenfall Director Sales & Origination Christine Lauber said “We are very pleased that with this agreement we are further accelerating the growing market for long-term electricity supply contracts for industrial customers in Germany. Vattenfall's goal is to enable fossil-free living within one generation. That also means supporting our customers in achieving their sustainability goals.”

According to Christine Lauber, the further expansion of renewable energies in Germany in the future will not be supported by the EEG subsidy scheme to the same extent anymore but mainly be based on PPA contracts.

Tesla en Panasonic verbreken samenwerking bij zonnedakpannen

Tesla en Panasonic staan op het punt hun samenwerking in de productie van zonnedakpannen te stoppen. Tesla fabriceert de stroomopwekkende dakpannen in een fabriek in Buffalo, die door de staat New York wordt gesubsidieerd. Dat heeft het Japanse technologieconcern woensdagavond bekendgemaakt.

Volgens een verklaring stopt Panasonic zijn deelname aan de fabriek in september van dit jaar. De beslissing vloeit voort uit een wereldwijde evaluatie van de zonne-energieactiviteiten van het concern. Het besluit komt op het moment dat Tesla-oprichter Elon Musk liet weten de productie van energie opwekkende dakpannen te willen vergroten. Tesla is vooral bekend vanwege zijn elektrische auto's, maar produceert onder de naam Solar Roof ook zonnedakpannen. Dit lijken gewone dakpannen, maar ze zijn van glas en wekken elektriciteit op.

Panasonic zet zijn samenwerking met Tesla wel voort in de Gigafactory in Reno, in de Amerikaanse staat Nevada, de megafabriek waar batterijen worden geproduceerd voor de elektrische wagens.

Akuo Inaugurates its Focola Solar Plant in New Caledonia

Independent global renewable energy power producer and developer Akuo and Enercal Energies Nouvelles, the 100% subsidiary of New Caledonia’s electricity grid management company Enercal devoted to renewable energy, inaugurated the Focola solar plant in New Caledonia. The Focola project was set up on the initiative of a local farmer, Jean-Christophe Niautou, who wanted to collaborate with Akuo because of its globally recognized expertise in agrivoltaic solutions on cyclone-prone islands. For the solar PV project, Akuo thus approached the Enercal group, the territory’s leading renewable energy producer. Together, they created Focola SAS, the entity in charge of this project.

The first Agrinergie greenhouses deployed in the Pacific, an innovative system combining market gardening and solar PV electricity production. Sixteen cyclone-proof photovoltaic greenhouses occupy a total surface area of 22,000 m2 of land. The farm produces 2 GWh of electricity a year, the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 600 homes, and some 200 metric tons of vegetables. Beyond the technical achievement itself, this project contributes to 2 major societal ambitions: this territory’s food self-sufficiency and its electrical autonomy.

The cyclone-proof aspect of these greenhouses offers clear advantages in securing agricultural production in this region that suffers two cyclones a year on average. Very committed to responsible agriculture, this farmer thus wants to explore permaculture processes. This new activity will enable him to create several new jobs. Furthermore, this project is contributing to New Caledonia’s energy independence, as the territory is very determined to make the transition to green energy given these islands’ fragile ecosystems and extremely rich biodiversity that are important to protect.

Construction of 50MW Blitta Solar Power Plant in Togo Starts

Construction of the Blitta solar power plant in Togo has begun. Amea Power, the project developers announced the report and said foundation of the development was already laid by the country’s president. The Blitta solar project is part of Togo’s National Development Plan. Upon completion, the power plant is projected to supply electricity to 600,000 homes and 700 small and medium-sized enterprises. The solar project is also supported by the West African Development Bank to a tune of USD 11 million and will require a total investment of USD 34 million. The solar project will be developed under a Public Private Partnership by the UAE-based company Amea Power.

Amea Power has already signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Togo Electric Power Company. The majority of Togo’s generation capacity is thermal. Togo generates some of its own electricity but imports the majority from Nigeria and Ghana. The Government of Togo is interested in increasing private sector investment in the power sector and attracting off-grid companies to increase access to electricity in rural areas.

Vietnam Proposes Changes in Bidding Rules for Solar Power Plants

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has had a change of heart on the bidding mechanism for solar power tariffs in Viet Nam. In the middle of last month, the ministry was still studying a bidding plan for solar projects in the country. However, it now says using a bidding mechanism for solar power tariffs could have negative impacts. The ministry sent a report to the government suggesting that solar power projects approved before November 23, 2019 that begin operating before January 1, 2021 should enjoy fixed feed-in-tariffs of 7.09 cents a kWh for plants on land and 7.69 cents for floating plants. It said: “Investors of the projects that have been granted investment certificates have spent a lot of time and money on planning, site clearance, preparations for construction and technical design evaluation. Not getting a PPA is an unwanted issue. Previous regulation would slow down a project of those without a PPA.”

In the previous proposal, MoIT suggested fixed rates would have applied only to projects that had begun construction before November 2019, operated this year; and signed power purchase agreements.

MoIT said 36 projects nationwide, with a total capacity of 2,989 MW, have received investment certificates before November 23, 2019. Seven more, with a total capacity of 517 MW, have signed PPA contracts and are currently under construction.

Iberdrola Starts Construction of Photovoltaic Plant in Aragon in Spain

Iberdrola is moving forward with the process of leading the energy transition in Spain with the start of construction on its first photovoltaic plant in Aragon, with 50 MW of installed power, located in the municipality of Azaila in Teruel province. The photovoltaic plant, consisting of 142,740 monocrystalline silicon cell photovoltaic modules with a fixed support structure, will generate up to 140 jobs during the peak of the construction phase. Once operational, it will produce enough clean energy for a population equivalent to 24,290 homes/year, in addition to avoiding the emission of some 19,000 tons of CO2 per year. It is scheduled to be become operational by the end of 2020.

With this new project, the company is reinforcing its commitment to Aragon, where it has just brought the El Pradillo wind farm (23 MW) on line. It is also building the Puylobo wind farm (48.5 MW) and already operates more than 360 MW of wind and hydro power in the region.

Iberdrola is implementing the most ambitious renewable investment plan in Spain, which provides for the installation of 3,000 MW of wind and photovoltaic energy by 2022 and up to 10,000 MW by 2030. The plan will create jobs for 20,000 people in Spain. In Spain, Iberdrola is the leading wind energy producer-with an installed capacity of more than 5,800 megawatts and it is the renewable energy leader, with 16,000 MW installed (over 30,300 MW worldwide), making its generation fleet one of the cleanest in the energy sector.

Vakbeurs Solar Solutions International uitgesteld vanwege coronavirus

De vakbeurzen Solar Solutions International en Duurzaam Verwarmd worden uitgesteld vanwege de uitbraak van het coronavirus. Beursorganisator Good! verplaatst de evenementen naar 7 tot en met 9 september 2020.

Doordat het coronavirus afgelopen week Nederland heeft bereikt, heeft de beursorganisatie een nieuwe analyse van de situatie gemaakt in nauwe samenwerking met de autoriteiten.

Geen andere mogelijkheid
'De afgelopen weken hebben wij intensief contact gehad met autoriteiten, experts en andere betrokken partijen', meldt Rolf Heynen, directeur van de beursorganisatie. 'Inmiddels is er officieel een uitbraak in Nederland vastgesteld door het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) en dreigt er een verdere verspreiding. Uiteraard heeft de gezondheid van onze exposanten en onze 15.000 bezoekers onze hoogste prioriteit. Daarom zien wij geen andere mogelijkheid dan dit uitstel.'

Belangrijke factoren bij dit besluit waren volgens de beursorganisator de zorgen van vele exposanten over de veiligheid van hun personeel en over de verwachte uitwerking op het bezoekersaantal. Door nu dit besluit te nemen, bleek het nog mogelijk om vervangende data te vinden in Expo Haarlemmermeer, de gebruikelijke locatie van Solar Solutions International en Duurzaam Verwarmd. De vakbeurs wordt nu in zijn geheel verschoven naar maandag 7 tot en met woensdag 9 september.

Alle exposanten, seminars, activiteiten en tentoonstellingen maken deel uit van de beurs in september. Tickets die bezoekers hebben besteld via blijven gewoon geldig voor de nieuwe data. De beursorganisatie stuurt deze tickethouders enkele weken voor de beurs een herinnering.

September-editie Solar Magazine met nieuwe beursspecial verschijnt eerder
Als hoofdmediapartner van Solar Solutions International vervaardigt de redactie van Solar Magazine ieder jaar in de maart-editie van het tijdschrift een redactionele beursspecial. De maart 2020-editie van Solar Magazine valt dinsdag 10 maart en bevat nu de vakbeurs verplaatst wordt logischerwijs deels achterhaalde informatie.

Vanwege de nieuwe datum van Solar Solutions International wijzigt ook de verschijningsdatum van de september 2020-editie van Solar Magazine. Deze editie van het tijdschrift verschijnt nu op dinsdag 1 september 2020. Bovendien zal deze editie nu een nieuwe beursspecial over de vakbeurs Solar Solutions International bevatten.

Bloomberg: coronavirus vertraagt solar-revolutie, China installeert minder zonnepanelen

De uitbraak van coronavirus dreigt de wereldwijde revolutie in zonne-energie te vertragen, omdat deze de levering van voor zonneparken in China en daarbuiten afsnijdt. Dit stellen analisten van Bloomberg.

‘Als de uitbraak van het virus langer duurt dan het eerste kwartaal en zich uitbreidt naar meer regio's, zoals momenteel gebeurt in Korea en Italië, dan kan dit de wereldwijde uitrol van hernieuwbare energie heel goed vertragen’, stelt Ali Izadi-Najafabadi, hoofd analyse in Azië voor Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF).

Overaanbod verdwijnt vooralsnog niet
BNEF heeft zijn vooruitzichten voor pv-installaties in China voor dit jaar dan ook verlaagd. De BNEF-analisten verwachten in het meest realistische dat China nu geen 45 gigawattpiek, maar 43 gigawattpiek zonnepanelen zal verwelkomen in 2020. In een van de andere scenario’s, het meest pessimistische, werd voor de uitbraak van het coronavirus uitgegaan van 37 wattpiek aan nieuw geplaatst pv-vermogen. Voor dit scenario is de verwachting nu verlaag naar 31 gigawattpiek.

Ondanks dat BNEF zijn voorspellingen heeft verlaagd, waarschuwt het dat de productiecapaciteit na het stoppen van de virusuitbraak snel kan oplopen en dat de huidige verstoringen niet voldoende zijn om het overaanbod te doen verdwijnen.

Eindhoven Airport gaat looproutes naar vliegtuigen overkappen met zonnepanelen

Eindhoven Airport start nog voor de zomer met de bouw van een overkapte galerij met zonnepanelen op de looppaden op het vliegplatform. Passagiers kunnen hierdoor droog van en naar het vliegtuig lopen.

Het nieuw te realiseren bouwwerk van circa 600 meter beschermt passagiers tegen weersinvloeden.

Bijzonder design
Niet alleen wordt reizen vanaf- en naar Eindhoven Airport hierdoor comfortabeler, maar biedt de galerij volgens het vliegveld ‘een verrassende eerste indruk van de regio bij aankomst en laatste indruk van de regio bij vertrek vanaf Eindhoven Airport’.

Het bouwwerk krijgt namelijk een bijzonder design en vormgeving passend bij deze regio. In de overkapping wordt gebruikgemaakt van zonne-energie en worden bovendien herbruikbare materialen gebruikt om circulaire bouw te bevorderen.

Eind oktober klaar
De galerij is voor de start van het winterseizoen gereed, te weten eind oktober 2020. De werkzaamheden vinden zo veel mogelijk plaats in de nacht. De dagelijkse operatie ondervindt geen hinder van de bouw.

Eindhoven Airport legt de focus de laatste jaren op het steeds verder verhogen van de kwaliteit van de luchthaven. Dat vertaalt zich in het optimaliseren van de infrastructuur, faciliteiten en de service aan passagiers en bezoekers. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn de oplevering van multifunctionele parkeergebouw P1 inclusief ov-terminal en de herinrichting van het voorterrein en de aanleg van de Airport-Boulevard die worden opgeleverd in april 2020. Bovendien werden afgelopen december de businesslounge en securitylanes met nieuwe scanners opgeleverd.

Gemeente Ede start selectieprocedure voor projectontwikkelaars 32 hectare zonnevelden

De gemeente Ede start een procedure waarbij het projectontwikkelaars wil selecteren voor de bouw van enkele zonneparken. De selectie houdt in dat initiatiefnemers tot 1 mei 2020 een plan kunnen indienen.

Om serieus werk te maken van zonne-energie zet de gemeente nu een selectieprocedure voor het ontwikkelen van grote zonnevelden in gang.

Zonnewijzer
De plannen van de projectontwikkelaars worden vervolgens getoetst aan de criteria uit de ‘Wind- en zonnewijzer’. De plannen met de hoogste score krijgen de mogelijkheid om de plannen verder uit te werken. In totaal is 32 hectare te vergeven. De gemeenteraad van Ede heeft in december besloten om voor nu ruimte te bieden aan 40 hectare netto zonneveld. Omdat er op dit moment al een initiatief voor een groot zonneveld wordt beoordeeld, is in deze selectieprocedure ruimte voor maximaal 32 hectare netto grote zonnevelden. Na bekendmaking krijgen de geselecteerde initiatieven maximaal 8 maanden de tijd om het plan verder uit te werken tot een definitief ontwerp en een aanvraag omgevingsvergunning in te dienen.

Inwoners van Ede plaatsen de afgelopen jaren al veel zonnepanelen op daken, maar volgens wethouder duurzaamheid Lex Hoefsloot is er meer nodig. ‘Om het doel te halen moeten we ook grotere zonnevelden realiseren, dus nog meer kunnen opwekken. Dit vraagt om een zorgvuldig proces omdat er rekening moet worden gehouden met andere zaken, zoals landbouw en natuur. Ook is het versterken van de biodiversiteit, het behoud van de cultuurhistorie en de inpassing in het landschap belangrijk. De gemeente komt daarom met een procedure om de initiatieven voor deze grotere zonnevelden te selecteren. Alleen de beste mogen ontwikkeld worden.’

Oosterhout: Shell en Eneco mogen Energiepark A59 met zonnepanelen en windmolens onderzoeken

Het college van burgemeester en wethouders van gemeente Oosterhout heeft ingestemd met het verzoek van Shell en Eneco voor het onderzoeken van de mogelijkheden voor een energiepark langs de A59 in de Oranjepolder.

Met dit besluit geeft het bestuurcollege het startschot voor een inspraakprocedure van een zonnepark en windpark langs de A59.

Regionale Energiestrategie
Wethouder Marcel Willemsen: ‘Voor het opwekken van duurzame energie zet de gemeente Oosterhout binnen de Regionale Energiestrategie (RES) onder andere in op windmolens en een aantal hectares zonneweides langs de A59. Om energieneutraal te worden in Oosterhout is grootschalige opwek van schone energie noodzakelijk. Alleen met zonnepanelen op bedrijfsdaken en woningen redden we het niet.’

Het plan is dat het Energiepark A59 in een klein deel van de Oranjepolder tegen de snelweg A59 aankomt. Eneco verkent de mogelijkheden voor een windpark als onderdeel van het Energiepark, genoeg om circa 15.000 huishoudens van energie te voorzien. Shell verkent de mogelijkheden voor een zonnepark als onderdeel van het Energiepark, genoeg om bijna 15.500 huishoudens van energie te voorzien.

Sociale participatie
De gemeente, Eneco en Shell willen de inwoners laten meedelen in de opbrengsten van het Energiepark. Gezamenlijk bespreken zij met de inwoners de mogelijkheden voor sociale participatie, met bijvoorbeeld een fonds voor verduurzaming van Oosterhout en financiële deelname met obligaties door inwoners.

Wethouder Willemsen vervolgt: ‘Natuurlijk kijken wij ook naar andere innovatieve technieken, zoals waterstof en het gebruik van het water van het Wilhelminakanaal. Maar voorlopig zijn zon en wind technisch haalbare en bruikbare energiebronnen. Het idee is daarom om tijdelijk, voor 25 jaar het anders gebruiken van de grond mogelijk te maken binnen het bestemmingsplan. Met de instemming van het college met de principeverzoeken van Shell en Eneco is een eerste stap gezet. Maar er volgt nog een lange procedure waarbij de initiatiefnemers ten eerste met de omgeving in gesprek gaan om ze te betrekken bij de plannen voor het indienen van een omgevingsvergunning.’

Energiecafé
Dit gebeurt in eerste instantie met een energiecafé in de wijk Dommelbergen op 12 maart in basisschool de Duizendpoot. De gemeente informeert inwoners hier over de stand van zaken van de RES en het duurzaamheidsbeleid van de gemeente. Op deze inloopavond biedt de gemeente ook andere partijen zoals woningcorporatie Thuisvester de ruimte om in gesprek te gaan over duurzaamheid. Shell en Eneco gaan in gesprek over hun plannen voor het Energiepark A59 met omwonenden en andere belanghebbenden. Dit energiecafé is voor hen de start van de omgevingsdialoog.

De gemeente geeft tijdens dit energiecafé ook uitleg over de gemeentelijke processen voor de vergunningverlening. Want het EnergieparkA59 kan er alleen komen als de gemeente een vergunning verleent om tijdelijk, te weten 25 jaar, af te wijken van het vastgestelde grondgebruik in het bestemmingsplan. Hiervoor moeten Shell en Eneco een omgevingsvergunning aanvragen.

2.117 zonnepanelen voor Leuvense bierbrouwerij Stella Artois

Luminus is op het dak van de Stella Artois-brouwerij van AB Inbev in Leuven gestart met de installatie van 2.117 zonnepanelen. Alle Leuvenaars krijgen via een zonnedelenproject de kans om mee te investeren.

De opgewekte zonnestroom zal voor 100 procent door de brouwerij zelf verbruikt worden.

8 miljoen bierflesjes
De 2.117 zonnepanelen op het dak van de brouwerij, goed voor een oppervlakte van 3.800 vierkante meter, zullen jaarlijks 576.000 kilowattuur elektriciteite produceren. Dit komt overeen met het jaarlijkse verbruik van ongeveer 150 gezinnen of met de jaarlijkse productie van bijna 8 miljoen bierflesjes van 25 centiliter. Dauvister, dochteronderneming van Luminus, staat in voor het ontwerp, de plaatsing, de inwerkstelling en het onderhoud van de zonne-installatie.

Alexander Soenen, brouwerijdirecteur Stella Artois: ‘Als duurzame brouwer hebben we een voorbeeldfunctie en streven we er voortdurend naar om onze impact op het milieu te verminderen. Onlangs kondigden we al aan dat we investeren in het grootste niet-gesubsidieerde zonnepanelenpark in Europa dat 100 procent van de elektriciteitsbehoefte van onze West-Europese en dus ook Belgische brouwerijen zal coveren. En vandaag zijn we trots om ook de samenwerking met Luminus aan te kondigen. We zetten hiermee een volgende stap in onze duurzaamheidsdoelstelling om tegen 2025 naar 100 procent hernieuwbare stroom te gaan. Dat we bovendien ook de inwoners van Leuven, Home of Beer, bij dit duurzame project kunnen betrekken, maakt het voor ons extra mooi.’

Power2Green
Alle inwoners van Leuven kunnen via Power2Green mee investeren in de installatie van de 2.117 zonnepanelen op het dak van de brouwerij en zo genieten van een gemiddeld bruto rendement van 3 procent gedurende 5 jaar. Investeren kan via het crowdfundingsplatform Mozzeno.

Katrien Rycken, coördinator van Leuven 2030 namens de stad, over het project: ‘Als grote Leuvense speler en trouwe partner van Leuven 2030 bouwt AB InBev met deze investering in lokale productie van hernieuwbare energie mee aan de realisatie van onze Roadmap naar een klimaatneutraal Leuven. Dat zij daarin bovendien de Leuvense burgers betrekt, kunnen we alleen maar aanmoedigen. We zijn benieuwd hoe dit ook andere partners inspireert een gelijkaardige actie op te zetten waarin er samen wordt gebouwd aan een duurzame toekomst.’
