- making the theoretical seem real can change the lens through which investors, consumers and regulators view the impact of tech dsiruption in transportation.
we believe so many auto and auto-related companies, such as FORD and GM , are making such strong efforts in the laboratory and in the media to emphasize the changing technological landscape to shared mobility in part because the changes may be more imminent than the market perceives.
new business structures and regulatory frameworks may enter the investment debate.
new industry participants ALPHABET and TESLA who were never before considered competition to the established auto companies are on the scene in an aggressive way , vying for capital to change the statust quo without the burden of defending antiquated models.
other industries with tangential exposure to transportation may face entirely new business opportuniteies and challenges.
we expect the first commercialized autonomous transport to have the follwoing attributes
- vehicles should have no driver, no steering wheel, no pedals - just seats
- vehicles hailed via a ride-sharing app from your smartphone
- speed limit
- range limit
- electric powertrain, autonomous cars must react in nano-seconds
- funded by large , highly capitalized tech firms who can approach such a venture as pure R&D, where up-front financial losses would be potentially less than a rounding error
- expect such cars to be equipped with a suite of LIDAR, RADAR, encrusted with cameras and sensors driven by a connected computer capable of continuous software updates and machine learning
Google Fiber - a precedent for Google Car
in 2012 Google launched Google Fiber - a broadband internet and cable company service thet relies on fiber-optic networks which can provide internet connection speeds of up to one gigabit per second , 100 x faster than what most have, understanding Alphabet's deployment of Fiber could yield clues as to how it might pilot on autonomous cars in select cities like Austin
synergies from Google Fiber
it would take abt 4,5 feet for a 4G car to apply its breaks and just an inch for a 5G car to do so, self driving cars will be able to make use of Google Fiber networks to ensure greater safety, hence Google Fiber cities could be target for self-driving cars, places like Austin and Kansas City screen well here.
- the 3 greatest changes in the auto industry : electrification, autonomous/algorithmic driving and shared mobility
met als conclusie Google maps is also likely to be the key asset in the world of fully autonomous vehicles , we see " maps as a key asset in the battle for control of the software ecosystem for autonomous vehicles
en dan concludeert in vraagvorm dit rapport
gaat Autonomous Drive Google Wallet and Android pay ?
zij denken van wel en hoe !
combinaties Google, Tesla, Uber
en dan hier een zin die we eerder gehoord hebben " financial resources to tolerate upfront pain, while the OEM's may be burdened by investors who demand results right away "
Dutch Auction
