MHI Vestas to Use Lindo Offshore Renewables Center

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will use Lindø Offshore Renewables Center’s new wind turbine nacelle testing facility to carry out a significant portion of their future testing and validation activities. Once operational in early 2021, the testing facility will be able to accommodate nacelles with a capacity of up to 22MW, LORC said, adding that the new facility is reaching out to the industry segment for the largest offshore wind turbines, which are expected to be introduced on the market sometime between 2022-2028. LORC said that construction work on the testing facility’s foundation started over the summer. The foundation is expected to be completed in February of 2020, after which a 2,250m2 test hall will be built with a span of over 22 metres from floor to ceiling.

Mr Torben Hvid Larsen, CTO at MHI Vestas Offshore Wind said that “The test center at Lindø is in a class of its own and opens up the opportunity to set a brand new standard in offshore wind power. The new test center ensures that our most innovative work will be tested in Denmark – the birthplace of offshore wind power. Vestas Wins 34 MW Order in Norway

Vestas has received a 34 MW order for the Haramsfjellet wind project on the island of Haramsoya in western Norway. Vestas has developed a solution to fit the site’s wind conditions that includes eight V136-4.2 MW turbines and a long-term service contract to optimise energy production for the lifetime of the project in a high wind location. With a robust design for tough wind sites, the turbine is well-suited for the challenging climatic conditions that are commonly found on Norway’s western coastline. The order is placed by Finnish-based Taaleri Energia investing via their SolarWind II fund in the project that will have an annual production of about 112 GWh; enough electricity to supply around 7,000 Norwegian households. The contract includes the supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a 27-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. The project will also feature a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution to lower turbine downtime and optimise the energy output.

Mr Olav Rommetveit,CEO of Zephyr said that “After 21 years of development of the Haram wind farm project we are delighted to finally build the project. Great cooperation with Taaleri, Vestas and other suppliers, consultants and local landowners has made this possible. We are strongly committed in the role as both construction and asset manager of the project. Siemens Gamesa Launch Wind industry Partners in Taiwan

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy held a launch ceremony with local government authorities and wind industry partners in Taiwan for what will be the company’s first offshore nacelle assembly facility outside of Europe. Construction is due to begin in 2020 at the site located in the port of Taichung. This represents an important milestone for the company in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. Siemens Gamesa currently has offshore nacelle assembly and manufacturing facilities in Germany and Denmark. The parcel of land being developed in Taiwan measures over 30,000 square meters, and will be used for nacelle assembly, testing, warehousing, office buildings, and outdoor storage. Siemens Gamesa is also working closely with Taiwan International Ports Corporation to establish inbound and outbound logistics in newly-established quaysides nearby.

Construction is planned to begin in 2020, and production in 2021. The facility will then support Orsted’s 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a project, for which the SG 8.0-167 DD turbine will be used. In later years, it will provide an option for the supply of nacelles to other regional projects.

Mr Andreas Nauen CEO of the Offshore Business Unit in SGRE said that “Our strategic investment in Taichung harbor with this nacelle assembly facility continues as previously communicated. Doing so ahead of the local content requirement timeframe demonstrates our confidence in the long-term potential of offshore wind power for Taiwan and other APAC markets. The strong foothold we are building here will enable us to better meet our customers’ needs in this market and in other parts of the region.”

Britse kroondomeinen starten aanbesteding windparken

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Britse kroondomeinen zijn gestart met een veiling van vergunningen voor een nieuwe generatie windparken op zee die uiteindelijk 20 miljard pond aan investeringen moet opleveren.

Er zullen nieuwe rechten op de zeebodem in de wateren rond Engeland en Wales worden geveild aan ontwikkelaars van windenergie. Er mag voor 7 gigawatt aan stroomopwekkingscapaciteit worden gebouwd, wat genoeg is om te voldoen in de behoeften van meer dan 6 miljoen huishoudens.

De bouw van een generatie nieuwe windparken kan goed nieuws zijn voor de Nederlandse fabrikant van funderingspalen voor windmolens Sif. Analisten van ABN AMRO stelden eerder al tegenover ABM Financial News dat Sif goede kans heeft om het orderboek verder te vullen, met name met de projecten in de Britse Crown Estate.

Positief voor Sif is dat de belangrijkste concurrent, EEW, al tegen zijn maximale capaciteit aan zit, zo stelden de analisten.

De veiling zal naar verwachting honderden miljoenen ponden opbrengen voor de Britse kroon. Dat is de instantie die de publieke bezittingen van de Britse monarchie beheert. Dit zijn niet de privébezittingen van de koningin, maar ook geen overheidsbezit.

Orstead’s Horns Rev 2 Offshore Wind Farm Turns Ten

Located far from the Danish coast and in an area of the North Sea with high waves, the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, the world’s largest of its kind at the time, has been covering the annual power consumption of around 200,000 Danish households with renewable energy for the past decade. When HRH The Crown Prince pressed the red button on 17 September 2009 and officially inaugurated the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, it’s unlikely that many could have imagined how quickly offshore wind power would transform from a marginal niche industry into a global energy technology which now supplies energy to millions of people on three continents.

At the inauguration, Horns Rev 2 was the world’s largest offshore wind farm, but at the same time also the first offshore wind farm located that far from shore and in waters with such high waves. Already from the outset, great focus was therefore on quality and logistics in the design of the wind farm. Therefore, the 91 wind turbines are placed in a fan formation to better utilise the wind, and the foundation is constructed of both steel and concrete, so it’s better equipped to withstand the extreme conditions at sea. Furthermore, an accommodation platform was installed in connection with an offshore wind farm for the first time in history.

As Horns Rev 2 is located in the North Sea at a distance of 60 kilometres from the Danish Port of Esbjerg, an accommodation platform was installed for the first time ever in connection with an offshore wind farm.

Actually, Orsted is currently commissioning the offshore wind farm Hornsea 1 in the North Sea approximately 120 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast in the UK. Here, each wind turbine has a capacity three times that of a wind turbine at Horns Rev 2, and the wind farm will have a total capacity of 1,218MW, making Hornsea 1 the largest offshore wind farm in the world once it’s ready for production at the end of 2019.

Siemens Gamesa Confirmed Member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices in 2019

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy keeps constituent member, again this year, of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Indices (DJSI World), which tracks the economic, social and environmental performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. This is the tenth occasion the company has been selected for this index and the fourth year in a row. Additionally it was included in the European index (Dow Jones Sustainability Indices Europe, DJSI Europe).

Siemens Gamesa is the only Spanish company included within the machinery and electrical equipment category (IEQ), which comprises a total of 115 companies from all over the world.

Moreover, Siemens Gamesa scored particularly well in the areas of Codes of business conduct, Product stewardship, Innovation management, Strategy for emerging markets and Supply chain management. Following this last rebalancing exercise corresponding to 2019, the DJSI World is made up of 318 companies and DJSI Europe of 142 components. Created in 1999, the index selects and tracks the performance of world-leading companies in the sustainability field. Managed by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, in 2018 the invited universe consisted of the 2,500 largest-cap companies comprising the S&P Global BMI (broad market index); ultimately a little over 10% of the assessed universe with the most sustainable economic, social and environmental policies and initiatives was selected. The index in turn allows investors to invest in superior business models that are likely to remain attractive for the long haul. On the other hand, this process offers to companies’ insights highlighting opportunities and risks deriving from economic, environmental and social trends and developments that may have an impact on their competitive position.

CoreMarine & CENER Form Consortium for Floating Wind Engineering

CoreMarine and National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain announced the signing of a consortium agreement to promote engineering services to the floating offshore wind industry. This collaboration will combine their expertise in a one-stop shop for the development of floating wind projects. The combined offering will support projects from research and FEED studies, to simulation of components, detailed engineering and installation support. Specifically, the agreement focuses on floating foundation design, mooring and dynamic cable analysis, transport & installation, wind turbine modelling, coupled analysis and scale model testing.

Over recent years both CoreMarine and CENER have made their commitment to floating offshore wind and have gained extensive know-how and experience in the engineering, design and validation of floating structures. This agreement solidifies and strengthens the commitment of both entities and provides added value to this emerging industry.

Crown Estate Launches UK First Major Offshore Wind Leasing

The Crown Estate launched Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4, opening up the potential for at least 7 GW of new seabed rights for offshore wind development in the waters around England and Wales enough to meet the electricity needs of over six million homes. The Crown Estate, which acts as manager of the seabed around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, is making four broad areas of seabed available to the market, within which potential developers will have the opportunity to bid for project sites.

Mr Huub den Rooijen, Director of Energy, Minerals and Infrastructure at the Crown Estate said “The UK is home to the world’s largest offshore wind market, attracting global investment, meeting UK electricity needs, and playing a crucial role in the transition to a net zero economy. Leasing Round 4 is the next chapter in this remarkable transition, developed and refined through extensive engagement with the market and stakeholders, to deliver an attractive, fair, objective process, which helps to balance a range of interests in the marine environment. Round 4 projects will take the UK sector from strength to strength, delivering clean, affordable, home-grown electricity and joining a robust pipeline of projects in UK waters, which together will deliver a fourfold increase in operational offshore wind capacity by 2030”.

Equinor & SSE wins 3 Offshore Wind Projects in Dogger Bank

UK authorities announced on 20 September, that Equinor and its partner SSE were awarded contracts to develop three large scale offshore wind projects in the Dogger Bank region of the North Sea. This will be the world’s biggest offshore wind farm development with a total installed capacity of 3.6 GW. The projects are expected to produce enough energy to power the equivalent of 4.5 million UK homes. The Dogger Bank wind farm will consist of three projects, Creyke Beck A, Creyke Beck B and Teesside A.

The clearing prices for the projects are GBP 39.650 per MWh for Creyke Beck A and GBP 41.611 per MWh for the Creyke Beck B and the Teesside A projects (all in 2012 real prices).

The auction results reflect the continued cost reductions and technological developments and the increasing competitiveness of bottom-fixed offshore wind. The contracts offer a fixed price for the first 15 years of operation, providing the projects with a long-term predictable revenue stream.

Siemens Gamesa Continues to its Commitment to Sustainable Development

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy continues to pass milestones in its commitment to sustainable development, having raised to EUR 1.25 billion the amount of guarantees that qualify as green as they contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In a deal arranged with BNP Paribas, the company converted a EUR 240 million guarantee line into a green line and signed an additional line for EUR 110 million. That EUR 350 million is in addition to the €900 million in guarantees arranged with other banks.

Siemens Gamesa will use this line to fund its business of manufacturing and selling onshore and offshore wind turbines worldwide, with a positive impact on the Sustainable Development Goals relating to "Affordable and clean energy" and "Climate action".

David Mesonero, CFO of Siemens Gamesa said that "This deal is a further step in our commitment to being one of the main drivers of sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals reflect a new understanding that global development must integrate economic growth, social well-being and environmental protection. Orsted to Pioneer Deployment of GE’s Next Generation Offshore Wind Turbine

World leading offshore wind developer Orsted has selected GE Renewable Energy as the preferred turbine supplier for two of its US offshore wind farms which marks the world’s first commercial deployment of GE’s Haliade-X 12 MW offshore wind turbine. Subject to final agreed and signed contract and all required project approvals, Orsted will deploy Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbines on the two offshore wind farms constituting Orsted’s Mid-Atlantic cluster.

GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade-X 12MW wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 220 meters. Each blade on the Haliade-X 12MW is 107 metres (351 feet) long sweeping a total area of 38,000 square metres (409,000 square feet).
Subject to final agreed and signed contract and all required project approvals, Orsted will deploy Haliade-X 12MW wind turbines on the two offshore wind farms constituting Orsted’s Mid-Atlantic cluster:

thyssenkrupp Further Expands Wind Energy Components in North Rhine-Westphalia

thyssenkrupp is further expanding its development activities for wind turbine bearings. The company has now commissioned a new test stand for pitch and main shaft bearings in Erwitte, just a few kilometers from its development center in Lippstadt. At the new site, covering an area of around 7,500 square meters, bearings for turbines with a capacity of more than ten megawatts can be tested and further developed under real-world conditions. The company has invested more than five million euros in the new test site.

New-generation wind turbines have blades up to 80 meters in length. Pitch bearings connect the blades to the rotor hub and allow the blades to be optimally adjusted to the wind in order to regulate turbine output. The pitch bearings in particular are subjected to extremely high forces during operation. Alongside the main shaft bearings they are among the most important components of a turbine. Main shaft bearings support the entire drive system of hub, blades and generator. They transmit the torque from the blades to the generator producing the electricity and transfer wind loads and weight forces to the tower.

Winfried Schulte, CEO of thyssenkrupp rothe erde said that “This test site is specifically designed to holistically simulate the functioning and service life of new main shaft and pitch bearings for future generations of wind turbines. Holistically means that the bearings are tested in their original configuration, taking into account the relevant turbine components, i.e. rotor hub and blade. Such tests are of decisive importance for the new generation of 10 megawatt wind turbines, which will place significantly higher demands on the functionality and quality of the components.”

Iberdrola & HEINEKEN Ink Partnership for Renewable Energy

Iberdrola and HEINEKEN Espana have added to their commitment to sustainability as a strategic thrust in their businesses by signing the first long-term power purchase agreement in Spain between an electricity supplier and a brewing group.The agreement signed by the two companies will contribute to the construction of a new photovoltaic plant in Andevalo, which will guarantee the supply of green electricity for at least 11 years to the four factories and offices of HEINEKEN Espana. The plant wwill become operational in 2020, in PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) mode, avoiding the mission into the atmosphere of over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.Andevalo forms part of Iberdrola's strategy of investing in clean power generation projects in Spain - where it plans to install 3,000 MW by 2022 and its commitment to using bilateral agreements with big customers who are committed to sustainable consumption as a way to promote the supply of energy at affordable, stable prices.

For HEINEKEN Espana, this partnership will allow it to be the first brewer in the country to commit to producing its beer using only renewable energies by 2023.

To achieve this, HEINEKEN is implementing an ambitious road map which, among other initiatives, encompasses a 100% renewable electricity supply.Located in the municipality of Puebla de Guzman (Huelva) and with a surface area of 150 ha., the project will have an installed capacity of 50 MW and will consist of 147,000, 340 Wp polycrystalline silicon modules that will generate 82 Gwh/yr.

Vestas Bags 43 MW Order for 3 Wind Park Projects in Greece

Vestas has won a 43 MW order for three wind parks in Greece. The contract includes the supply and installation of 12 V136-3.6 MW for the Didima, Mavra Litharia and Dio Petres projects located in northern Greece. The order has been placed by Pavlidis S.A., a Greek marble and granite producer, and also comprises a 20-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement. Turbine delivery is planned for the third quarter of 2020, whilst commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of the same year.

Vestas pioneered the Greek wind market in 1986 and since then it has won orders for more than 1.7 GW of wind turbines. This new order reinforces the company’s leading position in the country with over 50 percent of market share.

Vestas Intends to Scale Down Blade Production in Germany & Denmark

Vestas continues to introduce new products to the market to lower the cost of renewable energy, meet evolving customer demand and drive the energy transition forward, bringing changes to our product portfolio at a historically high pace. To meet the manufacturing requirements of our changing product portfolio including the introduction of our EnVentus platform and 4 MW platform variants Vestas intends to scale down production of V136 blades and invest in other blade types and capabilities according to market demand. The changes in Vestas’ product portfolio calls for a scale-down of V136 blade production in Europe while investing in other blade types such as V117 and V150. With the adjustment, we seek to ensure our ability to deliver the right products at the right time at the right cost to our global customer base.

Specifically, the scale-down of V136 blade production in Europe will impact our facilities in Lauchhammer, Germany and in Lem, Denmark, where we intend to reduce our workforce at the two sites by a total of approximately 590 hourly-paid employees. Vestas continues to produce blades for its 2 MW and 4 MW platforms in Europe, while preparing to develop the current and future EnVentus blade variants.

Vestas Wins 31 MW Turnkey Order in Germany

Vestas has secured a 31 MW order from Windpark Albertshof GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of the public utility Berliner Stadtwerke GmbH, for a wind park near Albertshof, Brandenburg. Vestas provides a full engineering, procurement and construction solution, leveraging its extensive experience from turnkey projects globally. Apart from the supply and installation of the wind turbines, the order includes civil and electrical works, building and commissioning of a substation, grid connection, as well as a 23-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

Vestas has developed a technology solution to fit the site’s wind conditions that includes eight V117-3.45 MW turbines and one V126-3.45 MW turbines in different hub heights. The site’s mixed turbine setup demonstrates the flexibility of Vestas’ 4 MW platform as well as Vestas’ ability to create optimised site layouts.

Wind turbine delivery is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, with commissioning expected in the same quarter.

GE Renewable to Supply Cypress wind turbines for Wind Farm in Turkey

GE Renewable Energy announces that it has been selected by Sanko Energy to supply GE’s 4.8 MW Cypress Units for the 51 MW Gazi 9 Wind Farm in Turkey and will be providing a 10-years Full-Service Agreement. Located in Canakkale, Turkey, the 51 MW wind farm will generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of 100,000 homes in Turkey and will play a significant role supporting the country’s renewable energy target. The construction of the wind farm is expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2019, to reach commercial operation by the end of October 2020.

Yigit Erzan, Head of Sales and Business Development, Turkey, GE Renewable Energy, said that “Gazi-9 Wind Farm represents one of the first Cypress orders for GE Renewable Energy in Turkey and shows clear demand in the country and around the world for GE’s latest onshore wind technology, with orders confirmed in Germany, Sweden and Australia. While the Cypress platform encompasses a range of turbines for use around the world, it is particularly well-suited to site conditions commonly found in Turkish wind energy projects.”

A spokesperson for Sanko Energy, one of Turkey’s leading renewable energy companies, said that “A total investment of 65 million US dollars would be made for Gazi-9 RES Project. Having an installed capacity of 51MW, Gazi-9 WPP will have an annual production of 230 million kWh, the energy needs of 100 thousand houses will be supplied and 134 thousand tons of carbon emissions will be prevented. With this agreement, Sanko Energy will be one step closer to its goal of increasing its existing 725 MW all renewable energy installed capacity to 900 MW by the end of 2020.”

Enel Starts Construction of 51 MW Wind Power Plant in Cuenca

Endesa, through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Spain, has begun construction of a 51 MW wind farm in the municipality of Motilla del Palancar. The construction of this wind energy plant, which will be completed by the end of the year will involve an investment of 55 million euros. The new park adds to the 519 MW of wind power that EGPE is currently building in Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Andalucía and Galicia, of which 445 MW are part of the 540 MW of wind power allocated to the company in the auction of capacity of renewable energy held by the Spanish Government in May 2017. In addition, EGPE has 339 MW of photovoltaic solar power under construction, awarded to EGPE in the third renewable energy auction of the Spanish Government, held in July 2017. Together, the construction of all these parks, which will increase Endesa’s wind and solar power by 52.4%, represents the investment of some 800 million euros until 2020.

The construction of this renewable capacity responds to Endesa’s strategy to decarbonize its generation mix, a process whose first milestone is to reach 8.4 GW of renewable installed capacity in 2021, compared to the current 6.5 GW, with a total investment of about 2,000 million euros

Endesa CEO Jose Bogas said that “Endesa is making a very important investment effort in renewable energies to lead the energy transition. At the end of the year, the 879 renewable MW that the company won in the two auctions will be operational. of 2017 organized by the Government, which demonstrates the company’s commitment for Spain to achieve its green energy objectives.”
