Vestas Bags 132 MW Order for 3 Wind Projects in Poland

Vestas has received a 132 MW order from Akuo Energy, a worldwide player in Renewable Energy, for the wind projects Wielowies, located in southern Poland and EP 44 and Gniew, located in northern Poland. All three projects will comprise tailored solutions including site-specific rotor sizes, ratings and hub heights that will cater for specific site and transportation constraints while maximising annual energy production. The Wielowies project will feature 19 V136-3.45 MW turbines and one V126-3.45 MW turbine that will all be operating in 3.3 MW. The EP 44 project consists of 22 V110-2.0 MW turbines and the Gniew wind farm comprises 11 V110-2.0 MW.

The three wind energy projects will feature a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution, lowering turbine downtime and thus optimising the energy output. The contract further includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. Turbine deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2020, while commissioning is planned for the third and fourth quarter of 2020.

Siemens Gamesa to Deploy Powerful Next Generation Platform in Sweden by 2021

Siemens Gamesa is launching a new era for wind power with a deal to supply the most powerful geared onshore wind turbine ever, the SG 5.8-155 wind turbine. The first of the 35 units, all with flexible power rating operating at 6.6 MW, will be installed in the second quarter of 2021 in the Skaftåsen project in Sweden, the first in the world to feature the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform. Project developer Arise AB and leading infrastructure investment manager Foresight Group LLP have chosen this latest generation of onshore turbines due to its strong performance and advanced design, combining reliability with maximum Annual Energy Production for the lowest LCoE. With a 30-year full-service agreement, this new generation of onshore wind turbines will generate predictable revenue streams over its lifecycle, improving the business case of the project.

The 231 MW order marks the debut of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform, only months after its presentation in April 2019, during WindEurope Bilbao trade fair. It reinforces the company’s leading position in the Swedish market, one of the most dynamic in Europe. Additionally, the debut of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X in one of the world’s most sophisticated wind markets highlights the superior performance of a platform developed by an engineering team bringing together the best technologies for use in a wide range of markets and requirements.

Siemens Gamesa 5.X goes one step further to become the new generation platform with the biggest unitary power on the market and the largest rotor diameters, 155 and 170 meters, resulting in maximum performance in high-, medium and low-wind conditions. Both turbines mean greater AEP per wind turbine and optimized project CAPEX. This is also due to improved versatility, with a modular, flexible design for maximum ease of logistics, construction and O&M, as well as reducing the OPEX, which results in a lower cost of energy for projects.

To adapt successfully to temperatures that can reach -15º C in Fågelsjö, where the turbines will be installed, they will be delivered in the cold climate version of the platform, capable of withstanding -40°C and operating at temperatures as low as -30°C. The turbines will feature the STC, a turbine control software system also used for Siemens Gamesa offshore products, meaning that all enhancements can be transferred, facilitating the work of the service technicians.

The project was developed by Arise AB, one of Sweden’s leading developers. The project has been acquired by funds managed by Foresight, a leading UK-based renewable energy infrastructure investor.

GE Renewable Energy Bags Cypress turbine Deal in Sweden

GE Renewable Energy has secured a contract to deliver 26 Cypress platform onshore wind turbines for the upcoming Blåbergsliden windfarm project in Sweden. The contract, awarded by the local firm Holmen, also includes a 25-year service provision. Construction works on the Blåbergsliden wind farm project is expected to begin soon and it is slated to become operational by the end of 2021. The project will have a combined capacity of 143MW, which will be able to power more than 135,000 homes. It will eliminate around 13,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

This is GE Renewable Energy’s second Cypress deal in Sweden. The Cypress platform is powered by LM Wind Power-delivered two-piece blade design that supports building longer turbine blades. It is offered with multiple ratings and varying hub heights. According to the company, longer wind turbine blades improve annual energy production and reduce the levelised cost of electricity. The two-piece blade design also enables the operator to install the onshore wind turbines at remote locations, which were previously inaccessible.

The first 4.8MW turbine in the platform was launched in September 2017 while the 5.3MW turbine and Cypress Platform name were introduced in September 2018.

Akuo Completes Financing of 132 MW of Wind Power Project in Poland

Akuo announced the completion of the financing of three wind power projects in Poland in partnership with Mirova Eurofideme 4, a fund managed by Mirova Natixis. With a capacity of 132 MW, the three power plants will have a total of 53 turbines supplied by manufacturer Vestas and will be operated by Akuo’s local teams. Construction is contracted to the local subsidiary of Aldesa. These are Akuo’s first projects in Poland and will supplement the Group's network in Central Eastern Europe in Croatia, Montenegro and Bulgaria in particular.

Developed over a number of years, these projects won the tender launched by the Polish government in late 2018. Beyond its desire to reduce its dependence on imported fossil energy, the Polish government is intensifying its efforts in the field of renewable energy in order to achieve the minimum threshold of 15% of renewable energy in its end consumption of energy by 2020, in accordance with the National Renewable Energy Action Plan. Within the framework of the country’s energy policy through to 2040, the government is targeting a 60% reduction in the share of coal in its electricity production by 2030 and an increase in the proportion of renewable energy to 27% by 2040.

These projects are expected to become operational in 2021, following which the wind farms will produce 100% green energy that will meet the electricity requirements of more than 200,000 Polish homes whilst avoiding the emission of over 300,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

Financing of these projects is carried out through the equity partnership with Mirova Eurofideme 4 as well as senior debt commercial loans from banking partners BNP Paribas Bank Polska, Commerzbank and Poland’s mBank.

Vestas secures 53 MW order for three wind projects in Poland

Vestas has received a 53 MW order from Pacifico Group and Green Bear Cooperation Poland sp.z.o.o., a company of Optima Wind sp z. o. o. Group, for the wind projects Debowa Laka, Swiecie and 12 W located in Kujawsko voivodship, north-central Poland. Vestas has tailored solutions for the three projects with site-specific rotor sizes, ratings and hub heights that will maximise power production and cater for specific local site constraints. The wind projects will feature V110-2.2 MW, V126-3.45 MW and V136-3.45 MW turbines.

The three wind energy projects will feature a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution, lowering turbine downtime and thus optimising the energy output. The contract further includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. Turbine deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020, while commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of 2020.

GE Renewable Energy to supply turbines for Sweden’s latest Cypress-equipped wind farm

GE Renewable Energy announced that it has been selected by Holmen as the wind turbine supplier for the 143 MW Blåbergsliden wind farm in Sweden. The project, which will use 26 of GE’s Cypress onshore wind platform, represents GE’s second Cypress-equipped wind farm in Sweden. The deal, which includes a 25-year service contract, takes full advantage of the Cypress Platform’s two-piece blade design provided by LM Wind Power. The construction of the project will commence shortly and will be fully commissioned and operational by the end of 2021. The operational phase will create five permanent full-time jobs. The proposed project capacity is approximately 143 MW, which would generate enough energy for over 135,000 homes* and would save over 13,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

The Cypress platform offers two benefits ideally suited the Nordics region. Its two-piece blade design makes it easier and more cost-effective to serve remote areas. In addition, the fact that it is the most powerful onshore turbine currently operating commercially helps it to drive down costs.

EBRD to Fund Wind Farm in Kosovo

Kosovo, which largely relies on lignite for its electricity, will soon start benefiting from a cleaner supply of energy from the biggest wind farm in the country. The EBRD loan of EUR 58 million will help finance the construction and operation of the 105 MW Bajgora wind farm in the north of the country. This loan is half of the total required financing for the project, with rest provided by Erste Group Bank and NLB Bank, both benefiting from cover provided by the German export credit agency Euler Hermes.

When complete, Bajgora will represent about 10 per cent of the country’s installed capacity and avoid 247,000 tonnes of CO2 a year, making a significant contribution to climate change mitigation. This will be the largest electricity plant constructed in Kosovo since the 1980s and represents a major step forward in Kosovo’s energy transition. More renewable energy will help address the twin challenges of reducing power cuts and avoiding pollution caused by the coal powering Kosovo’s two existing main electricity plants.

This investment follows three years of EBRD work with the government to make legislative reforms to unlock project financing of renewables in the country. Once constructed, the project will take Kosovo’s renewable installed capacity beyond 200MW and give a significant boost towards achieving the 400MW target the country has set itself to reach by 2026.

The funding for the Bajgora wind farm will enable its owners, Sowi Kosovo LLC, to build and operate a wind farm in the Mitrovica municipality. Sowi Kosovo LLC is majority-owned and controlled by Enlight Renewable Energy Ltd, an Israeli renewable energy company and existing client of the EBRD, alongside its German and Kosovan partners.

Vestas bouwt windturbines voor Rusland en Italië

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) Vestas heeft orders gekregen voor windenergieprojecten in Rusland en Italië. Dat maakte de Deense producent van windturbines maandag bekend zonder financiële details te geven.

De Russische order is afkomstig van een joint venture van PJSC Fortum en JSC Rusnano. Het gaat om zestig windturbines van 4,2 megawatt, die zullen worden geplaatst de Zuid-Russische regio's Kalmukkië en Rostov, met een totaal vermogen van 252 megawatt. Dit is de vierde order van deze opdrachtgever, waardoor de totale capaciteit die Vestas in Rusland levert tot bijna 600 megawatt stijgt. De turbines worden in het derde kwartaal van volgend jaar geleverd.

In Italië kreeg Vestas een order van PLT Engineering voor 37 megawatt aan windturbines voor twee projecten in de zuidelijke provincies Calabrië en Basilicata. Hier levert Vestas zowel turbines van 2,0 megawatt als van 4,2 megawatt. In Italië installeerde Vestas al meer dan 4,3 gigawatt aan capaciteit. De nieuwe turbines worden in de tweede helft van 2020 geleverd.

ENCAVIS AG Acquires 81 MW Wind Farm Portfolio in Denmark

Encavis AG continues to pursue its strong growth targets and acquires a portfolio of eight wind parks which are already in operation with a total capacity of 81 MW in Denmark. Advantage of this portfolio is the diversified local wind risk of the eight locations. High quality turbines of Vestas and Siemens Gamesa provide a technical availability above 99%. The OEMs service them with industry-standard long-term maintenance contracts with terms of 3 to 15 years. Annual power production of around 214,000 megawatt hours corresponds to the energy consumption of more than 50,000 households. Revenues of 13.4 million euros per annum are expected from the power marketing within the Danish remuneration system based on a normalized year.

The enterprise value of the Danish wind park portfolio amounts to around 108 million euros with an equity share of just under 52 million euros of Energi Danmark A/S

SSE Renewables acquires onshore wind project in Ireland

SSE Renewables has announced that it is to further expand its onshore wind pipeline through the acquisition of a 29-turbine, shovel-ready consented wind farm development in Ireland with an installed capacity in excess of 100MW, subject to final turbine selection. SSE Renewables has acquired the Yellow River Wind Farm project outside Rhode in County Offaly from Green Wind Energy (Wexford) Ltd. The project was granted full planning consent in 2014.

On-site pre-construction works have already commenced, and SSE Renewables expects to begin full construction of the wind farm in late 2020 with an expected project completion date in 2022. The project is expected to support up to 80 full-time construction jobs at peak delivery.

Once completed, the windfarm will be capable of generating enough green energy to power over 50,000 homes annually^ and offset over 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over its expected 25-year lifetime*, helping contribute to Ireland’s new 70% renewable energy target by 2030.

MHI Vestas Installs First V164-9.5 MW Turbine at Northwester 2

The first turbine has been installed at Northwester 2 in Belgium, the world’s first offshore wind park to feature the record-breaking V164-9.5 MW turbine. The 219 MW project, Northwester 2, is the first offshore wind park in the world to deploy the V164-9.5 MW turbine from MHI Vestas. The project will consist of 23 V164.9-5 MW turbines to spin 50 km off the coast of Ostend in Belgium.

Northwester 2 is the fourth collaboration between Parkwind and MHI Vestas in Belgian waters, soon providing a combined output capacity of 765 MW in the country.

One V164-9.5 MW turbine at Northwester 2 can generate power to meet the demand of 9.500 Belgian homes. In total, the offshore wind park will be able to supply 220.000 Belgian households with clean energy.

Siemens Gamesa Wind Turbine Debuts in Denmark

Siemens Gamesa has entered into a contract with Torp Vind I/S for the delivery of three wind turbines of the new SG 5.0-132 model for Torp Vindmoellepark in the municipality of Struer. The three wind turbines will be the first in the world of their kind to be installed. Torp Vindmoellepark will have a total capacity of 15 MW and it will be operated without subsidies.

The installation of Torp Vindmoellepark will begin in late summer of 2020 and the production from the repowering project will be supplied to the grid. Besides delivery and installation of the wind turbines, Siemens Gamesa has also sold a long-term service contract and will take on service and maintenance of the wind farm for the next 25 years.

Vestas Bags 38MW Order from Finnmark Kraft for Havøygavlen Wind Park

Vestas has received a 38 MW order from the utility Finnmark Kraft AS for the repowering of Havøygavlen Wind Park on the island of Havøy in northern Norway, which is the world’s most northern wind park. Located deep inside the arctic circle, with extreme climate conditions, this landmark project consists of nine V117-4.2 MW Typhoon variant turbines, with customised design to cope with the site’s average wind speeds that exceeds 9.0 m/s. The 30-year full scope service contract will maximise energy production for the lifetime of the project.

The nine Vestas turbines will replace 15 Nordex N80-2.5 MW turbines and increase the wind parks annual energy production.

GE’s Haliade-X Powering Dogger Bank Wind Farms

The inauguration of world’s most powerful turbine GE’s Haliade-X was held in Rotterdam. The turbine will be powering Dogger Bank Wind Farms, a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor, the first project in Europe to deploy the 12MW machine that has been named the best Sustainable Invention of 2019 by Time Magazine. At 3.6GW, this project will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world. In just a few years’ time, the Haliade-X turbines inaugurated will be standing in the middle of the North Sea at Dogger Bank producing green electricity for millions of British households for years to come.

Getting to this point on the Dogger Bank projects, after 10 years of development, has required a huge amount of effort and commitment on the part of the Dogger Bank team, the shareholders, SSE Renewables and Equinor, along with our supply chain partners including GE.

Second Platform of WindFloatAtlantic sets off from Port of Ferrol

WindFloat Atlantic has taken another important step towards entry into operations. The second of the three platforms, which make up the project, has left the Port of Ferrol for its final destination 20 km off the coast of Portugal at Viana do Castelo. Upon arrival to the project site, it will be installed next to the first floating platform, which has the exact same dimensions: 30 metres in height and with a 50-m distance between each column. The third and final platform, once it arrives to the site, will complete the first floating offshore wind farm in Continental Europe. Transportation of the three WindFloat Atlantic floating structures is a milestone in itself, as it sidesteps the need for towing craft designed specifically for this process and makes it possible for the project to be replicated in other geographies.

The structure, which has set off from the outer harbour of Ferrol, comprises a floating platform and the largest wind turbine ever installed on a floating structure. Once operational and with the installed capacity of 25 MW, the wind farm will be able to generate enough energy to supply the equivalent of 60,000 users each year.

Nordex Group Bags 3 Orders from Netherlands

In addition to the already published European orders received end of 2019, in December the Nordex Group was awarded on top to those orders a contract to install the Dutch wind farm De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer as well. The manufacturer will supply 44 N131/3900 turbines including the foundations with a capacity of 171.6 MW to its customers Duurzame Energieproductie Exloermond BV, Raedthuys DDM B.V. and Windpark Oostermoer Exploitatie B.V.. Together these three projects form the DMO wind farm. Nordex will also be providing service for all these turbines after installation on the basis of a Premium Service contract for a period of 25 years. The turbine delivery and installation will start from the second half of 2020.

The “DMO” wind farm is located to the south-east of Groningen, in the province of Drenthe near Exloo in the immediate vicinity of the central antenna field of the “Low-Frequency Array” (LOFAR). LOFAR, which is run by ASTRON, the Dutch Institute for Radio Astronomy, is a Europe-wide network of thousand highly sensitive radio antennas. It is used in the world’s largest array of antennas for research into the universe.

The antennas are very sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. Like every other electrical device, a wind turbine emits a certain amount of electromagnetic radiation. The highest permitted levels of this radiation are regulated by law. All wind turbines from the Nordex Group easily meet the required standard.

Siemens Gamesa Extends EUR 2.5 Billion Financing Facility

Siemens Gamesa has strengthened its long-term funding structure by securing an improvement in the conditions of its main financing facility and incorporating sustainability criteria. The operation was highly successful, securing commitments from 22 banks and being more than 50% oversubscribed. Specifically, the company has extended the maturity of its €2.5 billion syndicated facility, arranged in May 2018 with various domestic and international banks. This consists of a €500 million loan and a €2 billion, multi-currency, revolving credit facility, maturing in 2022 and 2024, respectively. The funds will be used to finance recurring activity, which is now covered for the next 5 years.

Moreover, the fact that its credit quality is rated as investment grade by the main rating agencies — Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch — has enabled the company to secure more flexible terms and conditions for its financing.

Nordex Group Receives 308 MW Orders from Europe in December 2019

In December 2019, the Nordex Group received orders totalling 308 MW from diverse countries in Europe. The main sales market was Turkey with three projects totalling 105 MW. In addition to orders from Spain and Italy, among others, the Nordex Group secured orders in France (68 MW), Finland (43 MW), Germany (34 MW) and Croatia (32 MW).

With 72 turbines, the majority of the orders placed were for the Delta and Delta4000 series turbines with nominal outputs of between 3.0 and 4.8 MW.

Vestas to Become Carbon-Neutral by 2030

For Vestas, the reality of the climate crisis is at the centre of our business. In more than 40 years of pioneering and leading the wind energy industry, Vestas has worked with customers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by driving the transition to replace carbon-based energy generation with renewable energy. Now, Vestas is excited to announce it will be a carbon-neutral company by no later than 2030 – the first of many initiatives to increase our sustainability performance.

To become carbon-neutral we will reduce our global carbon footprint through a 55 percent CO2 reduction by 2025, reaching 100 percent by 2030. After installing more than 108 GW of clean energy, enough wind energy to displace 167 million tonnes of CO2 every year, equivalent to burning 70 million tonnes of coal every year, Vestas’ 25,000 employees are committed to developing competitive sustainable energy solutions to meet the world’s growing electricity demand. However, Vestas’ aspiration to be the global leader in sustainable energy solutions means going beyond delivering sustainable solutions – it means making sustainability part of everything we do and taking full responsibility for the company’s environmental footprint.

Therefore, Vestas does not believe reducing CO2 emissions in our operations is enough. Vestas is also committing to reduce the CO2 emissions from our supply chain by 45 per cent per MWh generated by 2030. The measurement has been chosen because it incentivises sustainability partnerships with suppliers that both reduce CO2 emissions and allows for the continued growth of the global renewable energy sector. MHI Vestas Selects Port of Roenne for Pre-Assembly and Shipment Activities

MHI Vestas has selected Port of Roenne at Bornholm for pre-assembly and shipment of the company’s offshore wind turbine components for Arcadis Ost 1, an offshore wind project scheduled for installation in Rugen by 2022. In early June 2022, MHI Vestas will install 27 V174-9.5 MW offshore wind turbines for the offshore wind park, Arcadis Ost 1, located off the coast of the island Rugen in Germany. When the commissioning phase is complete during 2022-2023, the 257 MW project will be able to provide 300,000 German households with green energy.

And now, the pre-assembly and shipment harbour for the project has been selected.
