Russia’s High-Tech Artillery System Was Supposed To Win The War In Ukraine. But Troops Didn’t Know How To Use It.

The Russian army spent decades and billions of dollars building what should be the world’s most fearsome artillery fire-control system. Combining drones, radars and thousands of modern howitzers and rocket-launchers, the fire-control system in theory can spot a target, relay coordinates and send shells down-range in just 10 seconds.

In practice, in the chaos of Russia’s wider war on Ukraine, the system barely works at all—and the artillerymen themselves mostly are to blame, according to Maksim Fomin, a militia fighter for the separatists Donetsk People’s Republic and a pro-Russian blogger. “Most of the gunners, before Feb. 24, had no idea how to fight in modern conditions,” Fomin wrote under his pen name “Vladlen Tatarsky” on Saturday.

Fomin was referring to the gunners from the Russian army’s Northern Military District, but the same criticism could apply to the army’s other districts, too—to the whole force, in fact. A sophisticated artillery fire-control system is useless if the troops don’t know how to operate it. Sure, they might fire off a lot of shells. Just don’t count on them hitting the right things—and certainly not quickly.

Nederlandse operatie ’Kachels voor Oekraïne’

Rotterdam - Een groep Nederlandse ondernemers wil de aanstaande barre winter in het kapot gebombardeerde Oekraïne niet afwachten en is gestart met een actie om binnen een paar dagen een kleine vierhonderd kachels naar het oorlogsbied te vervoeren.

Rotterdammer Sander de Kramer is samen met ondernemer Ton Schellings en hulpverlener in Oekraïne David van Kaam initiatiefnemer van de operatie. Aanstaande zondag rijdt Sander met een speciaal daarvoor aangeboden touringcar vol met gaskachels naar het oosten.

„In samenwerking met het lokale Rode Kruis en een plaatselijke dominee gaan we de eerste verwarmers uitdelen in Kiev en in plaatsen dichterbij het front.”
Houtkachelfabriek

Het is verder de bedoeling om samen te gaan werken met een houtkachelfabriek in het land. „Met geld en steun vanuit Nederland kunnen ze dan op grote schaal zelf gaan bouwen.” Hij verwacht dat de kachels voor „zes of zeven tientjes per stuk’, kunnen worden gemaakt.

De Kramer sprong in de hulpstand toen hij las dat de ’horrorwinter’ zoals hij het noemt binnen dagen gaat intreden, en dat de temperaturen snel zullen dalen tot min tien en lager. „Poetin probeert met de terreurbombardementen op elektriciteitscentrales de weerstand van de Oekraïeners te breken. De gedachte dat daar mensen doodvriezen trek ik echt niet.”

De Russen voeren al anderhalve maand zware bombardementen uit op het Oekraïense energienetwerk. Er is nu al een tekort aan elektriciteit, verwarming en stromend water.
Ontwikkelingswerk

Sander de Kramer is bekend van zijn hulp aan daklozen in ons land en ontwikkelingswerk in het Afrikaanse Sierra Leone waar hij na het zien van al het leed van kinderen in mijnen al 20 jaar hulp verleent. Tienduizenden kinderen konden dankzij hem naar school. De Rotterdammer, die ook een column heeft voor de Rotterdampagina van De Telegraaf, is vanwege zijn vrijwilligerswerk de afgelopen jaren overladen met internationale prijzen, zoals de Four Freedoms Award, eentje die eerder aan Nelson Mandela werd gegeven.

Russian Troops Flee Another Frontier On Left Bank Of Dnieper Near Kherson

Before fleeing, the occupiers stole "Zhiguli" and "Moskvich" cars from the locals.

Occupiers are fleeing from the left bank of the Dnieper in Kherson region. Units of the invaders have left the village of Cossack Camps near Aleshki.

According to Petro Andryushchenko, an advisor to Mariupol city mayor, only non-systemic patrols remained in the settlement.

Before fleeing, the "second army" seized "Zhiguli", "Moskvich" and other civilian cars, which do not require much and costly maintenance, from the locals.

The village of Cossack Camps, which is about 40 kilometres southeast of Kherson, was occupied by the Russian army on April 21.

It is remarkable that while reporting on the occupation of the village, the propaganda wrote about the mounting of the Russian flag on the local administration building and the state of the memorial in honour of those killed during World War II. They did not report on the local residents or the current demolition of the village.
