De term 'proxy war' kent verschillende definities, maar het vechten vindt per definitie indirect plaats. De steun in dergelijke conflicten kan op verschillende wijze plaatsvinden, waaronder militair en financieel. In casu vindt er op vrij directe wijze en op verschillende manieren steun plaats. De vraag is in hoeverre de NAVO de strategische uitkomst wilt beïnvloeden. Onlangs is door de VS gesteld dat het doel is om Rusland te verzwakken en sommigen nemen daarom wellicht aan dat er sprake is van een proxy oorlog. Maar je kunt het ook zo interpreteren dat de verzwakking van Rusland samenhangt met de veiligheid van Oekraïne, en dat dit geen strategisch doel dient.

U.S. HIMARS Rocket Artillery Going to Ukraine Would Be a Game Changer

HIMARS: Why Russia will hate this military platform if it is indeed in Ukraine – Ukrainian artillery played a decisive role in repelling Russia’s failed campaign to capture Kyiv in the first weeks of the war—by some assessments, destroying more Russian armored vehicles than anti-tank missiles. It is arguably of even greater importance in Russia’s new campaign in Eastern Ukraine, where a grinding battle of attrition is taking place between heavily entrenched forces.

While the U.S. is delivering 90 towed M777 field howitzers to Ukraine, it apparently also furnishing another potent form of artillery: Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems (MRLSs).

In an interview with Ukrainian Pravda, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland stated that thanks to U.S. military aid, Ukraine “already has multiple launch rocket systems”, though these had not been specifically listed as part of extended aid packages.

When pressed on the discrepancy, she made it “absolutely clear” that “We already supply MLRS systems. And it wasn’t just us.”

The implication seemingly is that U.S. MRLS transfers had been kept under the table until this interview. Nuland’s reference to “it wasn’t just us” likely refers to confirmed transfers of at least 20 Czech RM-70 systems and at least 20 similar Polish BM-21 rocket launchers.

Though quantity, type, and even presence in Ukraine remain uninformed, many believe the U.S.-supplied MRLS is the M142 HIMARS, developed as a more deployable lightweight complement to the Army’s 27.5-ton M270 MRLS. Indeed, in an address earlier in April, Pres. Zelensky specifically requested M270s or HIMARS systems. However, it’s also possible Nuland referred to U.S. stocks of Soviet launchers used for training.

Rocket launcher on a diet

In World War II, multiple rocket launchers, which had existed for centuries prior, matured into a formidable complement to traditional artillery. Compared to howitzers, MRLSs can unleash a huge number of munitions in a short period of time that land across a broader area, though with inferior precision and sustainability. Larger-caliber MRLSs also have better potential to deliver very long-distance fires than gun artillery.

Ukrainian began the war with three types of Soviet-developed MRLSs: around 200 BM-21 Grad which provides frontline artillery support, and about 75 each BM-27 Uragan and BM-30 Smerch systems that fire much bigger 220- and 300-millimeter rockets over greater distances. As of April 27, photos confirm Ukraine has lost at a minimum of 12 Grads and three Uragans but has captured at least 22 Grads and 2 Uragans from Russian forces.

In the 1980s, the U.S. Army finally sought to match Soviet enthusiasm for MRLSs by deploying the M270 multiple rocket launcher system based on the armored, tracked hull of a Bradley fighting vehicle. To compensate for the low precision inherent to MRLSs, its 227-millimeter M26 rockets (max range 20 miles) were designed to release 644 dual-purpose (anti-tank/anti-personnel) cluster bomblets over a wide area, rather than a single large warhead. Later M26A1 and A2 rockets had ‘only’ 518 DPICM submunitions, but the range extended to 28 miles.

The M270 carried twelve M26s in two pods, but those pods could alternately carry one powerful ATACMS missile with a range of 80 miles (later extended to 186 miles) to strike deep targets like air defense units, ammo, and fuel depots, headquarters, and airbases.

The M270 proved effective in the 1991 Gulf War, but they were difficult to maintain, supply and transport to the theater. Thus, the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) was developed in the 1990s to serve as a lightweight alternative that was rapid-deployable across the globe.

Ukrainian Intelligence:

The Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports that the occupiers have cancelled the medical examination for "conscripts" in certain areas of occupied Donbas.

Those who have obvious health problems (injuries, disabilities, severe acute illnesses) or have managed to obtain the necessary documents are still mobilised but sent to logistics departments. "

Details: According to intelligence, in order to identify as yet unmobilised conscripts, the Russian military police are conducting regular raids on the streets and at the probable residences of "conscripts".

The only alternative to forced mobilisation is to pay a bribe at fixed rates (depending on age, specialty and health status), Ukrainian intelligence emphasises.

Russia-Ukraine war: Moscow forced to redeploy ‘depleted’ units in battle for east after ‘failed advances’, says UK – live

Russia has been forced to merge and redeploy units from failed advances in Ukraine’s north-east, the UK’s ministry of defence has said.

The British military intelligence report, released early this morning, reads:

Russia hopes to rectify issues that have previously constrained its invasion by geographically concentrating combat power, shortening supply lines and simplifying command and control.

Russia still faces considerable challenges. It has been forced to merge and redeploy depleted and disparate units from the failed advances in north-east Ukraine. Many of these units are likely suffering from weakened morale.

Shortcomings in Russian tactical co-ordination remain. A lack of unit-level skills and inconsistent air support have left Russia unable to fully leverage its combat mass, despite localised improvements.”

On Friday, Ukraine claimed Russia had suffered “colossal” losses in the eastern fighting, but admitted it too had lost a significant number of troops

Ukrainian forges plane wreckage into key fobs to fund war effort

Never mind forging swords into ploughshares; a Ukrainian businessman is turning scraps of wreckage from a downed Russian fighter plane into souvenir key fobs and selling them abroad to support the war effort.

"Many of my friends tell me '$1,000 - nobody will give you this for this piece of metal, it's crazy," said Iurii Vysoven, founder of "Drones for Ukraine".

"In the morning, I woke up and understand on my phone (that) it's already $20-30,000 collected, and we see this constant flow of messages of people asking questions and telling (that) they want to donate more, they tell us it is an incredible idea."

The aircraft is a Russian Su-34 two-seater tactical fighter-bomber that the Ukrainian military says it shot down over the town of Borodianka, northwest of Kyiv, early in March, when Russian forces were trying to capture and hold the area.

Ukraine's defence ministry has posted images of the wreckage, which it says had the tail number RF-81251 and the call sign "31 Red".

After the Russians withdrew and refocused their invasion on eastern Ukraine, Vysoven asked the region's defenders if he could have some of the wreckage, scattered over farmland.

The soldiers told him both the aircraft's pilots had been killed. Among the wreckage shown by the ministry was a helmet stencilled in Russian with the last three letters of a surname ending "-NOV", and an empty leather holster marked "Buryat" - the name of an ethnic group that lives in Siberia.

Russia does not confirm details of its military losses, and Reuters was unable to verify the circumstances in which the plane came down.

Vysoven, who works in advertising, has oblong pieces about 10 cm (4 inches) long stamped out of fragments of fuselage, then machined, polished and printed with information about the plane and a "thank you" to the buyer. Each is perforated to receive a keyring, and engraved with a unique serial number.

"The uniqueness of this keychain is that we made it from the wreckage of a real Russian plane," he said. "This is a really unique gift to those who helped us."

In his office, Vysoven has an example of the infra-red thermal imaging drones that he buys for the Ukrainian army with the proceeds of the keychains.

"Now that we have raised a lot more money, we feel a lot more responsibility," he said. "My dream is this fund - we wouldn't need it anymore. My dream is to win, everyone safe," he added, in English.

"Everyone return home safe. And (that) we don't need to collect money to save someone's life."

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) De Russische centrale bank heeft de rente verlaagd, van 17 tot 14 procent. Dit werd vrijdagavond bekend.

"De economische activiteit neemt af", zei voorzitter van de centrale bank Elvira Nabiullina in een toelichting. "Het beëindigen van langdurige economische betrekkingen zal een negatief effect hebben."

De centrale bank waarschuwde dat het Russische bruto binnenlands product door de internationale sancties die zijn opgelegd vanwege de oorlog in Oekraïne, kan dalen met 8 tot 10 procent.

Bij het "binnenvallen" doelde ik erop, dat we jou vaak dagenlang niet zien in dit topic, maar je hebt wel steeds commentaar op het hoge aantal posts van Luchtschip. Hoe hij dat klaarspeelt zou ik niet weten, maar ik ben er blij mee.
Zelf merk ik wel enige verzadiging wat Oekraïne betreft, maar dankzij zijn berichten blijf ik mooi op de hoogte. Het betekent niet dat ik op elke link klik.

Bij mijn weten accepteert het Oekrainse leger geen particuliere buitenlandse militaire prive contractors en betaalt ook niet aan deze prive contractors

Buitenlandse vrijwillige strijders kunnen zich bij het Oekrainse leger aanmelden en vechten dan onder supervisie van het Oekrainse leger

Wat mogelijk is, is dat een Amerikaan die huursoldaat is bij een Amerikaanse private contractor, besloten heeft om zijn baan als huursoldaat voor deze contractor tijdelijk heeft opgezegd om zich aan te melden als vrijwilliger bij het Oekrainse leger

Ik denk dat de informatie op teletekst ietwat ongelukkig geformuleerd is en derhalve jouw vraag wie het particulier militair bedrijf, actief in Oekraine, betaalt
derhalve niet valide is

niemand, want er is geen particulier militair bedrijf actief in Oekraine

Mocht je verbolgen zijn over vermeende particuliere militair bedrijven, die voor Oekraine vechten,

waarom ben je dan niet verbolgen over het feit dat Putin Russische militair particuliere bedrijven betaalt om te vechten in Oekraine tegen de Oekrainse bevolking en hun leger ?

Putin betaalt het prive militair huurlingen leger van de Russische Wagner Group

Die levert nu hun huursoldaten, die actief waren in Syrie, Libië en enkele Afrikaanse landen
