Republikeinse Senator Hawley wil doorgaan met zijn bezwaar tegen de verkiezings-uitslag van de Staat Pennsylvania, maar lijkt dat alleen voor de vorm te doen. Zodra zijn bezwaar wordt genoemd en beide kamers (Huis en Senaat) apart gaan overleggen, is Hawley bereid om zijn spreektijd kado te doen zodat er direkt gestemd kan worden.

Ashli Babbit, protester killed at Capitol, was Air Force vet from California

The President Trump supporter killed in the Capitol building Wednesday is an Air Force vet from California who tweeted a day earlier how “nothing will stop us” and “the storm is here.”

Ashli Babbit, who had 14 years in the service and did four tours of duty, was married and lived near San Diego, her husband Aaron told KUSI-TV.

“I’m numb. I’m devastated. Nobody from DC notified my son and we found out on TV,” the husband’s mother, Robin Babbitt, told The Post, saying of her daughter-in-law, “She is a Trump supporter.”

Everything is “pretty surreal,” added Aaron’s brother, Justin. “It’s hard, because we haven’t been officially notified.”

The day before she was fatally shot — apparently by Capitol Police, Babbit tweeted, “Nothing will stop us…. they can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours….dark to light.”

Babbit, who used the Twitter handle CommonAshSense, also retweeted Wednesday morning — a few hours ahead of her and other Trump supporters storming the Capitol — a “MUST BE DONE LIST before Congress meets today.”

It included, “Mike Pence@vp @Mike_Pence must resign & thereafter be charged with TREASON,” and, “Chief Justice John Roberts must RESIGN.”

The rioters were protesting Congress’s impending certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

Babbit took a fatal bullet to the chest during the mayhem inside the Capitol.

Video footage captured the sound of the gunshot, and showed the woman crumpling to the floor from multiple angles.

She was apparently shot by Capitol Police, law-enforcement sources told The Post.

Responding to a tweet Monday by conservative author Melissa Tate saying, “Landing in DC. Here to do God’s work. Save the Republic,” Babbit responded, “I will be there tomorrow! Gods speed!”

On Tuesday, Babbit retweeted TV footage of a pro-Trump crowd amassing in DC ahead of Wednesday’s riots.

Babitt’s mother-in-law told a Fox affliate in DC she was puzzled by the behavior of her son’s wife.

“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” the mother-in-law said, according to a reporter’s tweet.

Dames en Heren, ik verwacht geen bijzonder nieuws meer zo lang het Congres bezig is met de verkiezings-uitslagen. Ik ga een paar uurtjes slapen, en laat het forum over aan @ luchtschip.

Donderdag verwacht ik wel nieuwe ontwikkelingen. @ luchtschip en ik schreven er al over : Achter de schermen wordt druk overlegd over het 25e amendement , en aan de belangrijkste topmensen is gevraagd om nog 1 nacht in functie te blijven. Alles duidt er op dat we donderdag 7 januari de ontknoping krijgen ..

Mogelijk is het wachten op 2 mensen : Mike Pompeo (mogelijk nog op de -vervroegde- terugreis vanuit het Midden-Oosten) , en Mike Pence (die eerst de verkiezingsuitslagen afwerkt met het Congres).

With control of both chambers and the White House, Democrats could mandate changes among the Capitol Police force.

The top House appropriator charged with funding the Capitol Police vowed Wednesday to investigate the law enforcement response to the violent mob that overtook the Capitol building and alluded to firings to come among the force.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told reporters after the rioting had subsided that "there were some strategic mistakes from the very beginning."

“I think it’s pretty clear that there’s going to be a number of people who are going to be without employment very, very soon," Ryan said, "because this is an embarrassment — both on behalf of the mob and the president, and the insurrection and the attempted coup, but also the lack of professional planning and dealing with what we knew was going to occur."

“You can bet your ass that we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” the Ohio Democrat said.

With control of both chambers and the White House, Democrats could mandate changes among the Capitol Police force through annual spending bills. House Democrats have previously sought to tie police reform to federal funding, in addition to pursuing reports on Capitol Police training policies and procedures to eliminate unconscious bias and racial profiling.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), the new chair of the House Appropriations Committee, said the breach of the Capitol "was a coup attempt instigated by President Trump” and that "everyone who has aided and abetted him for the past four years bears responsibility for today’s violence."

Lawmakers are questioning how rioters were so easily able to breach the building at the heart of the U.S. government, storming the Senate floor and leaving lawmakers, reporters and staff taking cover in the House chamber as the rioters tried to break down the doors. The pandemonium led to the death of one woman and resulted in about a dozen arrests.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who is poised to become chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said "the criminals who injured people, defiled the Nation’s Capitol, and destroyed thousands of dollars’ worth of property should be prosecuted for their felonies."

Ryan noted video footage that went viral of Capitol Police officers allowing rioters past fencing in order to access the building. “I have no idea why that would be permissible,” he said. “That’s unacceptable. … We’ll be looking at all of that.”

The police response to the pro-Trump protesters was milder than the law enforcement tactics employed when officers used tear gas and rubber bullets in response to Black Lives Matter protesters over the summer.

“If Black people were storming the Capitol, they would have been treated so much differently than they were today,” Ryan said. “I don’t think there’s any question that communities of color would have been handled much, much differently."

FBI, Homeland Security, White House Advisers Foresaw Possible Riots, Looked the Other Way

They knew it could happen. They feared that Donald Trump would pull a "Samson," bringing down the whole house on top of him in the two weeks before he left the White House. Officials from the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, the National Guard, and the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region who spoke to Newsweek last weekend on condition of anonymity, all talked about the potential for protesters and militias and paramilitary goons—egged on by the president—to storm Capitol Hill and even the Capitol building itself.

A half-dozen sources spoke openly about this very scenario: that the mob would take over the "People's House" and that somehow the system would break down. They speculated that this could occur because of the president's treasonous behavior, because of leadership deficiencies in the federal government and Congress, because of the extreme partisanship of the moment, and because everyone was looking the wrong way.

The blame was spread around, with the FBI dismissing the Department of Homeland Security as a bunch of amateurs and thugs; the military shaking their heads about President Trump and an absent White House leadership; Homeland Security department members mocking the District of Columbia's mayor, Attorney General, and police; and everyone making clear that "the problem" was someone else's.
